Lacrosse 318

i currently have a tundra with a towing capcity of 9700lbs and a payload of 1355, i am looking at buying a Lacrosse 318 but the sales person informed me that i should have a cargo capicty around 1500-1600lbs. so my question is is my truck able to handle this trailer, and the other question is how does the cargo capacity affect the towing of a trailer

Thanks Eli

I know how you Tundra guys are!! But I just completed a 5600 mile trip with a 303RK with a 07 Nissan Titan and had no trouble. Have fun and enjoy.

I pull the Lacrosse 318 with my Tundra with no problem. I put very little in the bed of the truck. If your wd hitch is set up properly and pack the bed light. You will have no problem. Do you have crew max with 5.7? I also have the TRD package. Little stiffer suspension that probably helps.

Enjoy your 318. We absolutely love ours and I'm sure you will too. Happy Camping!

I tow my 318 with my F150 without any issues. My truck has the same towing capacity. Only difference is that the payload is a little higher. I agree that if you pack the bed light you will be fine.

awesome, i have a double can 5.7l SR5, i was a little worried that i may not be able to tow the trailer because the sales person told my i should have around 1500 - 1600 payload i believe if i take 1-% of the trailer weight i should get my should get my cargo capacity, which is 780lbs, which still gives me about 400-500lbs.
the sales pers said with your family in the truck and then a full tank of fuel would take away from that. i'd assume the payload incorporates a full tank of fuel?

Payload assumes full tank of gas and 150lb driver. Nothing else.

Your dealer is correct. You will almost certainly be over your GVW. Can your truck pull it, absolutely. Is there liability exceeding your GVW, absolutely.

Just wondering as I read this, how could anyone think that you could pull a 5er with a 1,600 lb truck payload? I got a new 2012 V-Cross 275 5er that has an empty weight of 7,791 lbs(actual) and weight rating of 9,850 lbs. The pin weight will be about 1,950 lbs, which is more then the listed payload. Yet the sales paper states that it is 1/2 ton towable? Sure glad I have a 2011, F250, diesel, CC, long bed SRW.

In theory yes.
But your payload is based off more than physical weight such as.

Brake capacity is still the same
Actual axle weight rating is the same
Trans / engine tires still same for listed payload.

Airbags do not increase your payload rating. Sorry. How many people (how much weight) will be inside the truck? You may be OK if you load most of your gear in the trailer.

the problem is i love the trailer, but i don't want to buy a trailer my truck may have troubles with, ie the trailer swaying, so if it comes down to it, i would just find another trailer

Sway can be negated with an hensley or propride. And bags will let u ride level.

At the end of the day the prob is that you are maxing out the truck or coming close.

Can you make it work? Absolutely. Your truck is gonna have to work a little. If your looking at little flat 100mile trips, it may be a non issue...

3 adults , a dog, and a loaded trailer for 1000 miles?....i would not want to pull that trip with any 1/2 ton..... near capacity or not....
