Last year model truck discount?

Hey guys! I got a quote for a new truck today (RAM 2500 Diesel 4x4 with 5th wheel two prep). Left a deposit to hold it for me until next week.

When I get home, I notice that it's a 2015 year model. Don't most dealerships give discounts for last year's model trucks?

It's all built in to the deal. It won't show up as an extra discount. If you gave them a deposit, the deal is already made....

It also depends on what month the truck was built too. After a certain month the consider them 2016's.

My Ram was built the first week of September, 2001 and is titled as an '01 model.

There's sometimes discounts for a model year change, but if it's built recently then it won't be much.

Now, when a vehicle is reaching a birthday, then they start slashing prices.

Look at the door sticker and see what the build date is.

I agree if it's a 15 then you should be getting a good discount. 16's are out on the lots already. I would also Believe you should be able to get renegotiate or get your deposit back and tell them to stick it. These salesman use pressure techniques and trap ya. Never trust em.

I am replying to your post and some answers I've read through under it.

The key to what you bought is on the Monroney. That is the federally required window sticker. What does IT say about the model year???

Otherwise it will depend on not so much how recently it was built as when the dealership put it on its lot (sometimes they are one and the same) there are "flooring" costs". The bank owns those vehicles, not the dealerships and it costs the dealerships money to "floor" them.

AND the discounts are often from the factory and not the dealerships.

As somebody else said, try going back and re-negotiating the deal. Something to also always remember, there isn't a three day "cooling off period", as with some other products, either. When you sign those documents, it's yours. Several times after I've closed a deal and they
go through the litany of information they need to tell you and they tell you that this document supercedes anything the salespersons has told you, I will say "yeah, except for the three day cooling off period". You can just see their jaw drop. Then I say "just kidding".

New truck

Try typing in true car and put in all the stats and see what they are selling for in your area and that could tell you if your getting a good deal or not. We bought a ram 2500 4x4. Mega cab Hemi.

in Nov 2013 and we got a pretty good deal. At that time dodge was offering a life time bumper to bumper warranty for $5000. We got them to throw that in plus the discounted price then we purchased the truck. Just saying you can make pretty good deals at end of year if it is a 2015.

I bought a 2016 F250 last month. F150 are advertised as $10,000 off sticker here and on a loaded one you can do better

New Truck

Try true car .com put in stats on the truck you want to purchase and get an idea what everyone else is paying for that truck in your area. Then you will know if your getting a good deal or not. We bought. a new 2013 ram 4x4 mega cab in Nov of that year and they were closing out 2013s. And that year dodge was offering life time bumper to bumper warranty for $ 5000.00. We told them to throw that in with the discounted price and we would buy the truck right then. They did and we think we got a great deal.. So I would go back and haggle for a better deal. Stand your ground and you will get a deal your happy with.

Worst that can happen is they tell you take the deal it is the best they can offer or leave it.......... Many dealers have shown me the door............

You can negotiate a discount on any truck at any time. The size of the discount, however, will depend on your negotiation capability, time of year, and just how bad the manufacturer/dealer wants to move product!!
In April, I ordered a Ram Laramie fully loaded that listed for $50K and paid $43K plus license/taxes/registration. This was a ok deal as some have done better, however, we were pleased and luv the new truck!
I negotiated with 3 dealers within 50 miles from our home and never stepped into any of the dealerships until after the deal was done on the internet. Took a couple of weeks yo get everything done but was time well spent.

TrueCar says I'm getting a smoking deal for a 2015 year model truck, based on actual sale prices in my area and nationally. 😀

Thank you for your input, guys!

Depending on where you live Dodge will make big discounts. Here in the SE they do what the call SE dealer discount on top of what they have already discounted. Can be up to 8 to $12,000 and get a free Yeti cooler before end of year. Later RJD

Ford has a 'partnership' with DAV ~~ Disabled American Veterans. Members of DAV sign up once at Ford and when in the market for a new vehicle print a pin # from Ford. Find the vehicle you like and show the paper then ask for the invoice. Your price is at the bottom of the invoice under X plan. The normal $400 - $500 doc & admin fee can be no more than $100. You can buy 2 vehicles a calendar year for yourself or members of your household. The only negotiating is on your trade if you have one.
