The image of my rig makes it look like its squatting more than it actually is. The street is on a downward slant towards the back of the trailer. Between the trailer sitting on the hitch 1-2 inches off level (high) and I have not measured the truck bed hitched and unhitched but I do not think it drops more than a couple inches, it appears more off than it actually is. I have thought about adjusting the pin box but it handles really well so I have not seen the need to make the adjustment. I have been told I may be surprised how much better it handles as well as an increase in mpg with the trailer leveled out. I may have to give it a try just to prove that out. Iíll try to get some images with the rig on a level plane.
No helper springs or airbags.
Ford specs on this truck is as follows with the factory camper and snow plow packages:
GVWR 11500, Front GAWR 6000lbs, Rear GAWR 7000lbs, GCWR 19000lbs.
Michelin LT275/70R18E 125/122R tires combined weight rating of occupants and cargo should not exceed 3380lbs. I suppose this is the max payload with these tires.
Across the scale in its normal state. Me, the wife, full tank of fuel, grill guard, and loaded tool box.
Steer Axle 4980lbs Drive Axle 3760lbs Gross 8740lbs
Truck, same configuration and Trailer hitched with a normal load for one week camping.
Steer Axle 5000lbs, Drive Axle 5460lbs, Trailer Axle 8240lbs, Gross Weight 18700lbs.
Truck\Trailer hitched and loaded heaviest I have ever had it.
Steer Axle 5180, Drive Axle 5060lbs, Trailer Axle 10860lbs, Gross Weight 21100lbs
The heaviest Iíve ever had this rig loaded throws me 2100lbs over the combined rating and if I calculate this right 1040lbs under the GVWR of 11500lbs. Where I fail is calculating how far over the tire payload I was on that trip.
I do not usually pack that heavy but I was not going far and I was setting up for an entire summer so I had the kitchen sink in the garage. I normally try really hard to stay in the truck\trailer ratings.
Any constructive thoughts or observations on my scenarios would be appreciated
All this has me itching to hitch up and take off!
Merry Christmas to All!
