The new 2015s weigh quite a bit more then the 04s. They look awesome but not for towing. GM needs a better gasser to compete with the Ford 6.2 and Dodges 6.4 but in the diesel world, the LML Duramax is awesome!

I've always said GM needs to have a turbo option for the gasser engines (6.0 & 6.2), then you'll get a great deliver of torque and power for towing

I bet you that the tow problem came from the rear end ratio. I just bought a 2014 GMC 2500 this spring and I had a problem finding the right gasser. Most of the GM 2500s have a 373 rear end that only can tow 9,500 lbs. The GM 2500 with the 410 rear end pulls over 12,000 lbs but there are not many around. I couldn't find one within 500 miles of my dealer. GM is trying to keep up there fleet mpgs in order to meet government standards for mileage. The 2500/ with the 410 is a gas hog that brings down there mileage average. So I bought a Dura Max instead.

That would be great! They do need to step it up on the HD gasser lineup.

Very good point, especially on the gassers. Also relevant on the older diesels.

On my 03 Dodge 305/555 Cummins, I had the 4.10s and it was quite a difference in towing then the 3.73s. With the newer diesels you can get away with 3.73s no problem due to the massive powe increase over the last few years.

Our used '11 Ram 2500 w/5.7 Hemi & Used '11 Tracer 3150. Combined payments for the combo are $400/mo. w/no money down. This is our first TT & I feel we've got a nice setup for what some folks pay for just their truck...

Nice set up and well done

btw, just my truck payment is far more than your total payment. Fortunately, I personally pay far less for a total payment

That's what came on mine. I have read they are a Ford spec'd OEM version, but I am not sure if that is true. There are several reports that the OEM version has about 2/3 the tread life of the retail version.

I haven't heard that. My truck came with them on the 18 inch wheels. They also come on the SRW 3500 trucks as they have a higher load rating then the 20 inch wheel/tire combo witch is a Goodyear RSA, I believe.

I have seen it mentioned several times on the Powerstroke forums. That said, tires are kind of like brakes; lifetime can/will be seriously altered by individual usage characteristics...

My grandfather swore Michelin LTX (pre LTX 2) was the best tire ever produced for towing rigs.

I did a little research on the tire. The 20 inch Michelin is the OE tire and there is no other version unlike the 18 inch for my Chevy 2500. I do know that on my Porsche 911, there was a difference on the Michelin Sport Cups. There was an "N" spec and that was specifically for the Porsche and the other was the regular retail tire. The regular retail tire was better on the track (softer compound) but the "N" spec was better in wet weather and laster longer (extra rain groove and harder compound). I'm sure there is a difference on the Ford's 20 inch Michelin then.
