By putting the donut on it, I gather you did not activate the Sidewinder feature.

It is on the 5er itself. There are two bolts securing the pin box from turning. If you remove those two bolts and relocate the wedge that is bolted behind the pin (after you hook up), it will keep the pin box from turning and allow the trailer to pivot 22" behind the pin. You need to Google the Reese Sidewinder and look at the videos. Once you activate the Sidewinder, you can throw the donut in the garbage. The Sidewinder eliminates the need for a slider and any close clearance with the cab you might have when turning.

If your dealer talked you into buying the slider, he is definitely not a knowledgeable dealer.

Wow, thank you very much!! This is something I will definitely look at doing. My Reese has an arm that allows it to slide backwards for better maneuvering, but its not recommended driving that way because the weight is not over the axle (per the hitch installer).

If my salesperson was a little more knowledgeable, I would have bought either the 150 HD or upgraded to a F250 HD TV.

With the Sidewinder activated you do not need a slider as the trailer pivots 22" back from the hitch pin. I even run a full bed hard cover tonneau cover.

And this is okay to keep it in this position while traveling? Sorry for the dumb questions but this is my first 5ver.

Sure is, it is designed to lock the pinbox pin to prevent it from turning as the trailer turns/swivels on another pivot 22" back. Beautiful setup IMO.

Brighter than day, the label in the pin box tells you to remove the 2 bolts to enable the sidewinder feature. This weekend I'll go out and make sure I have the correct wedge for my Reese Pro 16K and I should be set for next season, Well after I get new tires on TV, 5ver and airbags on the TV. Then I will be almost all set! Thank you!

OC, I always wondered how you had a tonneau cover on your truck...

Like Paul Harvey said, "Now you have the rest of the story"

Don't know of anyone else crazy enough to copy it tho'. Takes about an extra 5 minutes to mess with the cover hooking up and unhooking, but I like the looks.

And like you said, it eliminates the need for a long bed truck. I wonder if you could put the fiber hitch a little forward in the bed to put some of the tongue weight on the front wheels.

It is 3" ahead of the axle now. Why would I want to add more wt to the front? What would be gained?

A 5th wheel hitch is typically mounted slightly ahead of the rear axle anyway. Usually 2 - 3 inches. You don't want to push it any further forward. I would likely void warranties of both the truck and the hitch, and these guys have been doing these hitches a long time. I think they know what they're doing.

I've never had a fiver, so I didn't know they already were mounted ahead of the axle.
I was thinking along the lines of a WDH-splitting the tongue weight more evenly over the two axles.
Just a curiosity on my part. I figured OC would know if it was a good idea. He knows everything!
