Looking at new tow vehicle

Hello,
I am considering the new Ram Ecodiesel truck and was reading the brochure. I was curious about the built in navigation system option especially for towing. I presently have a Magellan RV gps. I sent in a question to Dodge asking about that capability and here is the response:

The Navigation in the Uconnect systems does not have the capability of selecting RV routes nor does it have length or height restrictions because the vehicles that they are permanently installed in from the factory are not RV's. They are not subject to length, weight or height restrictions, nor hazardous materials or low bridges because they are permanently installed in vehicles that are not subject to these issues.

The Uconnect system's Navigation may have selectable avoidances regarding roads such as gravel or secondary roads, toll roads, etc.
depending on the media center.

The GPS unit that you have is portable not permanent, does not know what vehicle it is being installed in and may have to account for these restrictions depending on the usage or if installed in a transport, RV or commercial vehicle.

Now IMHO, I think that is shortsighted as many people tow things with their truck including travel trailers, trailers with high/heavy loads etc. As a matter of fact, the second page of the brochure shows a Ram towing an travel trailer.

Just passing this on if anyone is considering it.

I wouldn't put myself at the mercy of a dealer to update my GPS. Let alone what it would cost to diagnose and repair it should it not work. You could buy a few portable GPS units for that cost.

They wanted $500- to add nav to my new truck. I have a feeling that it's actually there, and the 5 C-notes just turns it on... I can buy several nice units for that price.

I think the RV edition is good enough. No need to get a GPS unit installed.

Check out the payload capacity on the truck before you buy it.

I would not depend on any factory nav system for that reason. The uconnect system is a nice system but I have not found a factory nav yet that works better then my phones nav! Lol
