The extra weight of a diesel will drop the 1/2 ton payload even farther.... will work for some but doubtful a 5er will be able to be pulled....

what weight is the 5er
a 5.0 is under teh payload of the Ecoburst but that being said...
I'd stay away from the Ecoburst even with the towing payload, since most are having major troubles with timing chains, vacuums, cam phasers and the lot.

Knowing now what i didn't know then Id look at a Dodge or Chev in the HD range

When you're looking at the new HD trucks, be careful of the towing capacity and payload. The '16 Chevy and GMC are towing less then the '15's were from a 5'er perspective. I'm looking at a new HD now and noticed that the new 2500's can't tow most of the 5'ers that are out today.

X2 good advice unless you are looking at gas then you get around 3000 payload but diesel payloads are not much more than 1/2 ton truck.

So my new truck is ordered and on the way. We are campers, not full timers and we travel pretty light most days. The tow and payload specs are well within the limits of what we are running.

I am not going to suggest what truck to buy, but I do wish to address the issue you posted.

Most of the newer trucks are fairly tall now days be it a 1/2 ton or a 1 ton.

I watched these working and seem to do a fine job for an older lady I watched climb in to a Chevy 4X 2500.

IMHO they would be a great addition to any rig and if it makes it easy for the boss so much the better.

igngoodluck:

Guest I'm cheap ! My new to me F-350 has nice color coordinated!, lighted running boards, with imbeded rubber treads. Soon I went to Home Depot, bought a 8 in step stool with a 300 lb capacity for $10 . It folds to 1 inch thick, and stores in the passenger seat back pocket.

I added my after market step bars myself. No drilling required.

shop by payload and towing capabilities, not whether or not is has running boards. Running boards can be added. Payload can't.

If I bought a new truck and lowered it, if that would affect the towing abilities?

no, I used to own a Sivlerado 1500 that I had slammed and body dropped and I still towed my 27' boat with ease. I had air bags on all 4 corners. I kept the rear gears alone, the tranny and engine all stock.

I hate how high the new pups are. I like to be able to reach over the bed rails to remove something.

I went from a 2013 GMC 2500HD Gas to a 2015 Ram 3500 Diesel 2WD , I would never believe the difference in power and towing capability in towing my 12000# Cedar Creek. And the RAM's are about 10K less than Ford and GM

Running boards for your short legged, round bottom girl. She will love you more than she does now. And as somebody else mentioned, do it yourself and pocket some vacation money. Everybody loves a vacation.
