The lube plate is for the top of the hitch plate and the bottom of the pin box. You still need to lube the pin with lithium grease.

Per Reese's manual, even if using the Revolution, the pin needs lubed also.

Manual is just another man's opinion.

Just happens to be the opinion of the one who designed it, probably should carry a little more weight than a "civilian" like us.

I usually spray some lithium grease on the jaws and or the pin. I use a lube plate for the top. I also use lithium on trailer balls.

Lubing the pin will just attract grime that will increase the wear.
I haven't lubed the pin on our fifth wheel, ever, and there is zero wear on the pin or the hitch mechanism.
So from my experience, I would leave it dry.

You should clean the grimy grease out and put in good grease.
Ive had semi trucks that would get dirt on the 5th wheel when barebacking, and it was ALWAYS scraped of and cleaned and new grease installed- they actually make covers for 5th wheels just to prevent this. And even properly greased semi 5th wheels will wear out the pin, pin mount plate and 5th wheels over time .
My current 5th wheel rv hitch with being greased the grease is turning black- so there is friction wear starting already with a little more than a 1000 miles.
- ?no lube is a really bad idea- that doesent even make any kind of sense at all. All moving parts need lubrication or premature wear will occur
Ps. If you mic'd it I bet there is wear.

I don't know too many campers with a million miles on them, so the comparison to semis is not valid.
As for checking my pin with a micrometer, I don't have to. I have a heck of a time closing the hitch locking slide in behind the pin, so it hasn't worn at all.
I wish it would wear, so I could lock the hitch easier!

If you greased it, it would probably work better.
Man, I cant even believe that someone would argue to not use lube?!!

I use a dry lube on the slide, and I use a Teflon lube plate.
Maybe you should try it, then you wouldn't have all of that dirty grease to clean up all the time?

I do use a lube plate ( as previously stated) and dry lube will not hold up to the constant friction. Its only good for lower use moving parts like locks and slidouts.
But do whatever makes you feel good!
Op will surely see the benefits that others have also expressed from previous posts.
Im out!!

I am only sharing what I have experienced in real life. I'm sure the OP will make up their own mind on the issue.
