It is a shame Anderson has discontinued them except for their rapid hitch.

+ another 1 (except no sway bar)
When storing, I just drape a rag over the ball for clean handling.
No greasy mess, no injured shins, no problems!

Any old axle grease works fine. And use plenty of it.

I seem to recall a similar question a couple years ago and someone said they use wax paper on the ball. No stains.
Haven't tried it myself.

trailer ball grease
Like most others I put wheel bearing grease on all of my hitches and I found a clever couple of $$ plastic cover to save the pants, I think I found it at Camping World.

I think we have all run into the hitch at one time. With my hitch, and after cleaning and lubing the 2 5/16" ball, I cut the bottom off of a "Aquafina" 16.9 plastic water bottle with the white cap still on. It fits snug, stays on at highway speeds when not towing, keeps everything clean, and with the white cap I can see it before I run into it.

Never, it is a grounding point for your electric, I'd rather deal with a little noise.

I use silicone spray on the ball, inside the hitch and on the sway bar balls. Seems to work for me. I have used some really ugly black high pressure stuff but I can't tell the difference.

SilverArrowPro-Back in the old days we had 3 wire trailer wiring, left-right-stop, ground through hitch ball. This worked OK because the ball was bolted to a Barden type steel bumper with steel brackets to the steel frame of tow vehicle. Then receiver type hitches became the norm, but with a painted shank and the slop in the receiver, the ground was no good. Now 4 wire trailer wiring is the minimum, and 7 way is pretty much now standard on large trailers. Do lube your ball. Metal to metal will wear out coupler and ball. If you still run 3 wire, add a good ground wire.

That's exactly what I do. Except, I use the bottom of the bottle inverted and it is held on with a strong magnet!

@drmoparPHD thanks for the update. Running 7 wire, so maybe I'll try a little dab.

Yes, you've got a separate ground in the wiring harness. A little grease won't hurt you at all.

We use Lithium grease. Keeps things quiet and makes hooking up/unhooking easier.
