Lug nut cover removal

I was trying to remove my Lugnuts covers so that I could check the torque on my saber tires. There does not seem to be an obvious way to remove these covers and I was wondering if anyone out there could tell me a simple technique for removing the covers without marring them? Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

I tried this tool but it was way too big…

The covers on mine don't come off. Just use the appropriate size socket on them the same as you would with a bare nut.

There is no cover for the acorn lug nuts. You should find out what size socket you need mine are 7/8 inch but I have 7K axles and 8 lugs. They make a deeper special socket for acorn lug nuts for mag wheels. You can get this type socket from an auto zone or similar type of store. I always carry the proper socket in my truck because the tire service guys do not seem to bring the proper socket with them.

Thanks...maybe my socket was not deep enough. Because when Placed it over the lugnut, it just spun. Upon closer examination, it appears that the nuts are plastic, so I assumed they are covers....74 inch or 19 mm...I'll check my other socket tools tomorrow and make sure it's deep enough.

I have never seen any with plastic covers but never say never I suppose. The ones I have seen are thin metal that is hollow and formed like a longer nut but the lower section in a rather normal lug nut that the hollow cover attached to but the cover is not meant to be removable. That is why the proper socket is required to be able to get down on to the nut portion to remove and install the wheel. If you have a socket that is not deep enough you will just deform the thin metal and destroy the acorn nut.

Thank you, Cir! That makes sense...looks like it's time for a trip to Napa ( not the Valley, unfortunately) for a deep socket.

Thanks so much to everyone who advised me...I found a 19mm deep socket at NAPA that works perfectly. Glad I didn't wait until I was broken down on the side of the road to find out that I didn't have the right socket! 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
