Manual vs auto in regard to engine braking

Curious...what would do a better job of engine braking? or would it be equal?

I assume when it comes to modern automatics the TC remains locked when in a tow/haul mode when descending?

Aside from a slight gear difference and maybe slightly more load from the auto it may be a wash?

It would be the same, FWIW, love our Duramax/Allison, we've descended many mountains without even using our service brakes. TC on ours will stay locked down to 20 mph.
