On new chevy 2014 and higher with out towing the tranny runs 194-198 degrees my stays around 196. I am thinking when I don't trade in iam.going for the 1500 with the 6.0 and extreme tow package it can pull 12,000. I pulled in the dead of summer 105 plus tranny only got to 204 but it goes right back down.

202 is not all that hot, if you tow any distance the trans oil will run betweeen 195 and 205 which is the motor temp (all late model motor temps are set at 215) so this is not bad, my allision runs hotter than that at times and red line is 285.
Trans oil today can take 250 before it starts to get hot and start to break down, so he is fine with his temps.

You need to sit down and read about weights is can be a little confusing, but you have weights and weight limits on both the truck and the trailer, and then a "combined" weight limit.
So spend some time online and look up all this (many locations start with trailerlife.com) and look over all these points it will help you with your question about your truck and trailer combo, and it will help you in the future when and if you replace your truck or trailer.

I have been to a couple transmission rebuild classes through Allison. They say that 100 degrees over ambient temperature when towing is completely normal. We have school buses that see 250 degrees on a daily basis and they have 150k+ miles on them with no issues.

My Tundra trans temp stays around the 200 range all the time. I have a scangauge ll connected via the obd ll port. The OEM trans gauge needle in the dash never moves past center. I have seen the trans temp as high as 225 pulling some long grades in the Rockies, dash gauge still center. 2nd 5r with this truck, 78K on the clock with about 40K or so towing the 5r's

I upgrade my 02 ram from 3.55 to 3.92. Pulls easier and rpm are lower. Gas mileage was actually the same or a little better. Instead of changing out the 'ring and pinion', I had a whole Jasper axle installed. Have a 36 month warranty from Jasper. About $2500 P/L.

PS ... a lot cheaper then a new/used truck.
