Max Pin Weight???

I have a 2012 GMC 2500HD short bed SRW with the Duramax Allison combo with Michelin rubber. What is the max pin weight I can safely put in my truck? My current 2009 Wildcat 31TS 5vr weighs #9850 and a pin weight of #1970. I am thinking of stepping up to a Fuzion Toyhauler that weighs #12500 and pin weight of #3000. Is this too much or am I being a worry wart?

Thanks

Your doorpost should State gvwr. Weigh your truck, ready to camp, and see what the difference is. That is you're pin capacity. But, a 3K pin weight, will be too much for a 3/4T. Heck, that's more that most duals have left after passengers and gear are stowed in the truck.

I have a 3500HD Ext Cab Long-Bed 2WD SRW and it has a CCC of 3875. I still have to take passengers, cargo, 5er-hitch out of that.

Your 2500 probably has about 1000# less.

^^^ this. You need to load the truck up like you're going camping and get to a scale to find out real world weights that are specific to you, your family and your truck. Anything else is guessing.

That is too much weight for your truck. I too had a 12' model with a D/A and it had a 10k GVWR, my truck with a full tank of fuel and just me pinged in on the scale at 7800#. So that left 2200# left for pin weight, cargo and passengers. Now if your a person that will run over the GVWR and go to the axle rating I think you would still be VERY close.

Since I too was committed in getting a larger toy hauler I sat back and determined that a larger TV was in order and THEN I was able to match my T/H to my truck. Because I bought a DRW D/A I pretty much picked anything I wanted and didn't fear an overload situation.

Good luck

30 ft vcross, 9200 lbs, 2200 pin and I am already 460 over GVWR. I need to shift a bunch of weight from the truck and the front of the camper and put it on the rear rack, and carry less. You'll never make it.

On the other hand, I am we'll under GCWR, Trailer GVWR and both TV axles.

Report

TV Weight W/ Trailer Attached: 9660
TV Weight: 7440
Trailer Kingpin Weight: 2220
Trailer Gross Weight: 9280
TV & Trailer Combined Weight: 16720
Vertical Load (Kingpin): 24%

Safety Margin VS. Overload

TV Front Axle Weight: -470
TV Rear Axle Weight: -624
TV Gross Weight (GVW): 460
TV Combined Weight (GCW): -5280
Hitch Tow (GTW): -8720
Vertical Load (Kingpin): -2280
Trailer Gross Weight (GVW): -670

How does sag enter into the equation? What is the sag spec?

I wonder the same as my DRW sags 2 1/2" in the back with 2300 pounds of pin weight set onto it.
