Maxxis tires

Got income tax and just went and paid for some maxxis m8008 st205/75/15 load range d tires for my toy hauler. The currant tires only made it through one season. Probably could get a couple more trips out of them but I'm not willing to take that risk. But who has these maxxis tires. Do you like them how have they been. They seemed to be a very popular choice and got them paid for now so I don't miss out on them.

I replaced my tires with Maxxis. Have only had the camper out a couple of times with them so far, but so far so good. By default, they have to be better than the originals...IMHO.

MAKE SURE the folks who mounted your tires changed the stems to high pressure metal stems. They will not normally do that unless you tell them to.

Most standard rubber based stems are only good for a maximum of 65 PSI with no side loads. If you use a valve mounted TPMS, the weight of the monitor can bend the stem up against the rim, causing air to leak at the base of the valve.

Good advice. We switched to Maxxis, going from load range C's to D's, put on the metal valve stems, and had the tires bead-balanced. So far, so good.

We have Maxxis tires with metal valve stems. I have not had any problems.

Haven't had them mounted yet herk camper still got snow drifts around it. But to make you happy I did tell them to get me metal stems. The shop I got my tires from is a local mom and pop type shop that I worked at for four years between high school and college still the same owner. I have nothing but confidence in them.

On my previous TT i put Maxxis tires on it and did not have any problems with them. If I stay with a 15" tire on my current 5er it will be Maxxis LR E tires.

I have that size tires on my 5er and if I were to replace them, I will move up from the D to E if I could and also metal valve stems.

Well I had my new maxxis tires put on today. When the old tires were coming off the rims I was comparing the two and wow what a difference. I had metal valve stems put in. Actually two of the old tires were separated one was really bad. It had completely separated I am lucky I even made it down there without it coming apart and it was just a short drive. But I am much happier now and ready to get to camping.

Yes, Maxxis have 14" tires. Just had 14" Maxxis tires installed on my enclosed tandem axle trailer. I went with them due to comments on other forums I frequent..

Put Maxxis tires on our TT back in Feb and like them. They ride much better than the stock tires. I paid for stems and balancing but the tire buster was not wanting to deal with it. He did it anyway after giving me some bs. I have used this local tire shop for many years, no more.

Yes they do, but only as high as a Load Range C (6 ply rated).

If you want Load Range D (8 ply rated), in a 14 inch tire, it's easier to find what we call Euro Tires.

Goodyear Marathons and other ST tires (I would bet) will benefit from the information in the attachment from Goodyear.

Basically, ST tires are speed rated at 65 MPH; BUT if you have the excess load capacity, you can adjust the inflation pressure upwards by up to 10 PSI over the required pressure for your load (also within the capability of the rims) to add up to 10 MPH to the speed rating.

For example, if your camper came with MAXXIS ST225/75R15 C rated tires and when you hit the scale your camper's load on each tire was 2000 pounds. At 2000 pounds of load (according to the Maxxis chart) your "correct 100% inflation pressure" would be 45 PSI and not the maximum inflation pressure of 50 PSI.

In the above scenario, running your MAXXIS ST225/75R15 C rated tires at 50 PSI at the 2000 pound load would increase your sped rating to 70 MPH.

It would be impossible to increase the speed rating above 70 MPH in this case without up grading your tire range to "D" in order to use a higher than C rated inflation pressure of 55 PSI. If you bought 4 of the D rated MAXXIS ST225/75R15 tires, and ran the pressure at 55 PSI with a 2000 pound loading you would achieve the best case speed rating of 75 MPH. (A 10 MPH boost for every PSI above that required to carry the load.

This only works if you have the load and pressure data for your tires AND KNOW the actual load on your camper's tires (get weighed and weigh each axle's load; not both and divide by 4 as the rear axle may be carrying more of the camper's weight than the front if the camper is not exactly level when connected).

I have been out only 1 time with my 26TBSS and the way the 205/75R15 C rated tires felt while towing made me very nervous so I got the weights taken and am at 7080 pounds TT. Went straight to Americas Tire and ordered Maxxis M8008 225/75R15 and new equally rated wheels as well. Came home and read your advise on the metal valve stems so I called the sales person back, he said he has the high pressure metal stems in stock and their company policy requires these on the E rated tires I ordered so we're all set. I am fairly new to the forum and appreciate all the great advice you provide, whenever I see your name I make sure to read your comment very closely.

My original TowMax tires are apparently not very good. I was inspecting the trailer after a trip and discovered the tread bulging on one for about 1/3 of the circumference. I got a Maxxis to replace it. I will probably replace the other 3 soon as it's gonna be time to replace the tires on both our vehicles. I'll see what kind of deal I can get buying 11 tires from the same guy... Yeah... I'm cheap!

I haven't seen a negative post about Maxxis, and I haven't seen many positive posts about any of the other brands, including Goodyear...

+1 on Herk's advise. I haven't seen him post anything I haven't agreed with, on a common-sense level...

Have run GY Marathons since 1976 and have never had a problem with them. Just took a set off that were 16 yrs old that that had been on our race car trailer that set on dirt and had dry rotted so bad the tread literally fell off 2 of them and they still had 40# of air in them. Trailer was towed loaded from Anchorage, Alaska to Concord, NC when the tires were 10 yrs old. Wouldn't have anything but GY Marathons from my 37 yrs experience with them.

Are you happy with the performance of your tundra. I know I sure am. I was really surprised how much better it pulls than my old Titan. The gas milage sucks but the power is amazing. It's nice to be able to keep my speed even in a head wind.
