Cool More GoGo Juice

After our Disney trip last summer and having to stop every 325-375 miles I got to thinking that I didn't want to have to plan another trip around fuel so I started looking for aux tanks. Ok so I didn't look very hard till around 3 months ago. I finally decided on a "local" vendor ATTA located in Mansfield, Tx for my tank. Picked it up last night and installed it myself which took me about 4.5 hours but I was taking my time. ATTA will do the install in 2 hours for $200, by the time I got done I was thinking that maybe I should have spent it. But today I'm glad I installed it myself as I know how it's done and can take it out when it's new truck time.

50 gallons of extra GoGo Juice makes 88 gallons. We're talking around 800 miles before we have to stop for fuel.

Rear view. Ain't it purty? The tank not the back window tint. Yeah that's gettin replaced one of these days.

With the extra tank, I guess your tow capacity will not be effected that much because of the type of truck you have? you have room to spare. Nice looking job.

Now the truth comes out. Do the math. Less than 10mpg. with a deisel.
Most deisel forum people claim outrageously great mileage.
Cool setup though.

A schosh better than 10mpg, generally 11-12. I documented our Disney trip mileage here.
clicky

but I've seen and had people tell me some crazy mileage while towing. I've gotten as low as 8 before but that was doing 80

Yeah we have a real big one behind the truck

Guess I misspoke with the 800 miles and have to stop thing. After doing conservative math at 11mpg (we usually do better than that) and 88 gal of gogo juice it's 968 miles. So I guess I'll start looking for fuel around 875 or so just to give myself a cushion.

The biggest advantage the extra fuel gives me is piece of mind and we can buy fuel when we want not when we have to. If we are down 50 gal or so and see fuel at a good price we can pull over and top off or if it's crazy high because there is no other fuel for a hundred miles we can keep on rolling and pick some up later. Cushion.
