More Hitch Ball Size Issues
Hi All:
We're going to take delivery soon on our TT, Salem Cruise Lite 271RB. We'd want to have the correct size hitch ball for it before going to pick it up. Tried calling the dealer, sales, service, and manufacturers web site. Salesman thinks it's 2", not sure. I think that's too small, it's probably 2 5/16". Nobody knows for sure unless they go out to the lot and look at the tongue. I would want to look for myself to be sure before taking delivery. It's 51 miles away. If anybody out there knows for sure, please let me know. Much obliged.

Take both a 2" and 2 5/16" along with an end wrench ... return the ball you don't use ... no worries.

I would be extremely suprised if it was anything other than 2-5/16". Take both sizes with you and return the one you don't need.

Doesn't the dealer sell hitch balls? The salesman should get a 2" and a 2 5/16" and see what fits the coupler, then let you know.

After buying a TT you would think the dealer would provide the right size ball to tow it off the lot at not cost!!!!!!!

They don't sell a camper unless it's a pop up. With a 2 in ball it will be 2 5/16

X2. My old 2008 Shamrock used a 2", but current is a 2-5/16" which is more common. Having trouble understanding why an employee of the dealership can't be troubled to walk out to the lot.

^^^Yep. This *might* be an indication of the level of service you could expect in the future. If the dealership can't convince someone (anyone) to walk by to verify, I don't think I'd trust them with ANY other issues that may arise....
Just my $0.02...

Alex that is not correct. My vibe 6501 has a 2" receiver and it is not a popup.

Your lucky your trailer only weighs about 3000lbs. 2 5/16 is the standard.

Why am I lucky? I was just pointing out that to assume that everything larger than a popup would have a larger ball could get someone in trouble. You should always see what the trailer hitch says.

Cause you have a small trailer and the 2' ball is just fine. Trouble?

If you try too hook up your trailer with the wrong size ball it can lead to all kinds of trouble. Stuck ball or if too small the trailer could become unhitched. Just make sure you double check what the trailer hitch says because the dealer won't be there if something happens even if they said it was x size.

X2 Runs in my mind that law, engineering or something set the ball at 2 5/16 any time the GVW gets above 6000 lb
