I've got experience with both gasser and duramax, both with our Sabre 34tbok, very similar to your qbok. With our f250 V10 cc 4wd, the best empty I could get was 13 at 60mph. Averaged 11 empty. Pulling I could get 8, but averaged between 5-6. It was rough but I loved that truck and it pulled fine. After our accident last winter I bought a 06 GMC 3500 drw 4wd cc long bed. I can get 22 mpg at 60 mph empty, average about 17 empty with town, hwy, and some idle time included. 9-12 pulling. All that said the diesel and Allison make pulling a breeze.

I tow a Cedar Creek 32RL 36 ft long and I get 11.5 to 12.0 loaded and run around 63mph. I have found there is 3 things men will lie about. The mpg they get on there trucks, the size of fish they caught and something else. I don't worry about mpg, when the fuel tank gets low I just put more in. We have the wrong hobby to worry about mpg

It is a very attainable number. I get 12-14 pulling my 40' 18k Trilogy. I can also get 26-28 empty. The secret is what's not behind the turbo anymore and what was plugged into the OBDII. 😁

You are calling BS on his claims, I'm calling BS on yours. I went on a trip with a friend once in an 05' F-350 with a V10 pulling a 4000 pound boat, and we got 7 mpg. That was mostly flat highway for 400 miles round trip. Gas was $4.25 a gallon at the time. After paying for half the gas in the truck and the boat, I had to do a refi on the house and sell my first born!!

if your gettine 7-8 towing and diesels are getting 11-12, how is that the same? 12 is 50% more than 8 last time I checked. That's a huge savings.

but nobody is towing 12,000+ with gas and getting 12. No 3/4 and 1 ton gas trucks are getting 20+ not towing.

you are trying to convince yourself if it's worth making the switch to diesel. I went through this 2 years ago and made the switch. Don't know why I didn't do it earlier. Have had a few combinations of gas trucks and bumper pull trailers. 7-9 was always the towing MPG and 11-13 was non towing MPG. Now with diesel and a 36ft 5th wheel, 10-12 is towing MPG and 16-22 is non towing MPG.

that would be really impressive, to go that many miles on just over 1 qt of fuel

I don't tow a 5er, and they generally get a little bit better mileage than the same size TT. 8 with my 36' WnP at ~12,500lbs.

However, my 6.4 Ram didn't get the message about empty MPG...

Nope.
Just fishing for experiences from others.

Before my V10 was a 14 ram 2500 CUMMINS.

Just yesterday, I traded the Ford, and the wife's Lexus...
For a 15 3500 CCSB slt CUMMINS..

It was a three hour drive each way to the dealer.
Down in the Ford, 24L 100/km.
Home in the ram, 14l 100km.

Done deal.
When the 160km warranty is up, they can have it back and I'll take a new one again.
Won't be towing till spring, but am excited.

05 RAM Cummins duelly 36' trailer usually weighs around 13800 but weight varies 11-12 MPG and empty 16-20 depending............. No flat land here......... except going to beach

Our 03 gas Hemi towing a 25 ft 8000 lb trailer got 7-8 towing and 13-14 empty.

The 1992 F250 7.3 non turbo towing a 4500 lb trailer got 13mpg and 16 empty but that was 1992 technology and no turbo..... And the transmission would not stay in it more than 30,000 miles The 1986 6.9 F250 diesel got about the same mileage.
