Must have options for new Ram 3500?
My wife and I are talking and think we are going to end up ordering a new truck in a couple of weeks.
We think we are most likely going to stick with a Ram 3500 dually again. We've had good luck with Dodges over the past 15 years (first a Durango and then the 3500).
What features would you deem must have for towing heavy (21k lbs. but less than 3,500 lbs. of pin weight).
It'll definitely be a crew cab / long bed and 4x4.

I would look at a Ford F 450 too. Many on the Heartland side that tow Bighorns and Landmark's have F 450's and great success with the added payload capacity for F 350. If we move to a Landmark I would not hesitate a SRW F 450 as it as he payload needed for a 18k Fifth Wheel.

Yeah, Momma won't have a Ford. She loves her Ram and a couple of friends had issues with their Fords.
I wish I didn't have to go to a bedless truck to get a higher rated Ram. I just can't justify the $XX thousands for the truck and then to still put another $10-20k into a custom RV hauler bed. Though, I do lust for them!

I wasn't willing to admit that I needed a new truck yet! The weight slips and feel in the cab tell me otherwise...

Here are just a few suggestions for a dully. I know your getting the diesel so go with the Aisin trans, Id think about the Auto level suspension(it is what I ordered) 220 amp Alt it comes with a 3:42 axle ration if going with the 14000 weight. Don't know if you want bucket(leather) or bench. I went bench. I'd go with the 8.4 inch screen minus Nav unless you want nav. Rear window defogger is a must have. I also ordered the high center stop/cargo view camera. Need running boards also. One last thing is the luxury group. Gives ya heated seats ans such. Later RJD

Love my F450. But one of my camping friends has an '18 Ram 3500. The only thing he has that I wish I had was the self leveling air bags.

Thanks, RJ! I was playing around with their towing capacity tool on the site- looks like I need the 3.73 gears or possibly the 4.10 gears. The 3.42 is definitely too low.
We really don't care for the nav one way or the other. Ours in the truck sites largely unused. I can count on one hand the number of times we've used it in the last 3 years for actual navigating. But, I do like to have the map up when driving while my wife is navigating so I can see what the turns are. I'm sure I can be un-trained from that pretty easily.
We want bench seats. We often take my in-laws places with us and seat 6. Love my mother-in-law dearly, but just can't imagine I'm going to get away with putting her or one of her precious grandkids back in the truck bed!

Unless Ford made changes to the F450, payload capacity is not more than on the Ram 3500.
If you are open to the idea work the numbers on a Ram 4500/5500 for highest payload, wider front axle for tighter turning radius, trim level up to Laramie and a 2nd fuel tank option.
Otherwise, 3500 dually with the trim level of your choice, Cummins/Aisin, 3.73 rear axle ratio (no need for 4,10), power sliding rear window, air suspension if available by now, adjustable pedals, high mount rearview camera, integrated running boards and mud flaps (not the nerf bars and not necessarily factory), 8.4 uconnect, upfitter switches, high output alternator (should be standard with diesel), factory 5th wheel/gooseneck prep. package, skip the sunroof, skip the GPS Nav.
P.s.: Don't remember whether it was standard or option (I'd have to check the build sheet), you do want a 2nd fuel filter/water separator.

If you can wait, then I agree with Ace. My BIL works for Chrysler R&D testing the new models, and while I can't give you any specifics, his advice to me when I was looking for a new truck was the same as Ace's with an added "It'll be well worth it, especially if you're wanting a fifth wheel."
I, on the other hand, am not patient and since we had already bought the fifth wheel (cart before the horse), that's why there's now a new truck sitting in the driveway.

Just one request. I know it MUST be a hugely expensive option on Ram's, but please, please, consider the one option that we all like.
A good muffler. One that muffles.

Not sure. With his lead time on prototypes, might even be 2020s. Maybe check the various dodge forums to see if they got better insight to when they'll be released.

As I recall, my Pop’s F450 got way worse fuel mileage than his F350. Obviously more is better, but my 3500HD Silveraydo handles my 18,000lb plus Cyclone, like it’s not even there.

Yes talking about the 2019 3500. From what my dealer said it would be either last of year of 2019 or first of 2020. One reason I ordered the 2018 you can now get the sport appearance package that has the new style Ram grill so it looks newer. Later RJD
