My 2009 GMC 1500 looked similar. I think it's just normal wear. I didn't worry about it.

Me thinks the holes are punched in the tubing that is already made.

My 07 2500 GMC Sierra same thing. Have 10K toy hauler, didn't lub the ball which elongated the pin hole. Bought a new Curt brand heavier hitch. Haven't put it on yet.

I would give that a good wire brushing an wire wheel an a nice coat of rustolium black paint...maybe a primer first...

I have the anti-rattle, and a Master Lock pin that slides tight. My hitch doesn't budge. Amazon. Got both for around $50 +/-. Also, be sure to grease everything

My hitch stays in the receiver so I installed a anti rattle device to prevent the hitch from wobbling around in the receiver and beating the hell out of the pin.
