Thanx & here's a link:
Hidden Hazards of Road Salt: Car Corrosion Can Take a Toll
No doubt I should have in retrospect washed the burb off a little more and had thee undercarriage sprayed with an undercoating more....... the burb has treated me better than I've tereated it. Also I would take pics of the frame buckling point but I don't know how to posst piks on here yet - I'm new.
Also, I don't know about GM hitches in general but I have no complaints with my burb: I was a boater for 25 years and for 12 years with this burb I towed a 35 foot Formula with twin 500 hp's for engines on a tri axle trailer.
The boat dry was 9200 pounds and the trailer itself weighted 3500 - thats 12,700 alone. With 150 gallon gas tank thats another 1000 pounds+ nnot to mention 40 gallon water tank and all the other stuff like two tons of BEER!! haha.
Seriously tho this burb has towed a lot in its life and I never had any probs with it till.........SALT CANCER did it in kinda.
Thanx........INTJohn

Actually, if you do a search for GM/Ford/Chrysler hitch failures you get pages full; however, it looks pretty equal, other than the Jeep hitch recall that Jeep is still doing and NHTSA is starting to get nasty about.
GM, or the other vehicle manufacturers do not make their own hitches, and most likely purchase the same hitches from the same suppliers in some cases.
And then you begin to wonder is it a hitch problem or a weight problem. Someone overloading the hitch weight rating?

Broke a 97 F350 once. Good reason to attach your break away cable to something other than the hitch.

I broke one out of my '95 Ram 2500. Chrysler asked for it back and reimbursed me on buying whatever I wanted as a replacement.

Here are pix of my cracked receiver and where the frame buckled. Note that all is totally eaten by salt cancer.
