need air bag opinion

I have a weight Dist Hitch that works great. Air bags are not needed when hauling the TT. When I am hauling the pontoon or the snowmobiles is when I see the sag in the rear. I can deal with both as they are short mileage tows but if i can help with the porpoising over the cement sections while towing the TT I will get what is needed. I do not haul water or waste I will have up to 1300 lbs in the cargo area of the ToyHauler. but usually 600. How much extra is it to have a remote compressor added if needed.

I have them and use them when I'm hauling my motorcycle or other stuff.
I went cheap and did not get the air compressor. They require from 10 to
100 PSI but the volume of air to fill them is small. I got a "slime" brand
12v tire inflator from WalMart for less than $20. It easily and quickly fills
them when I need to. This is typically once before I leave home and maybe
once more if I let the air out of them to help lower the rear to facilitate
unloading my motorcycle.

In my case they help with keeping the tail level so my headlights don't
shine up in the trees and other folks rear view mirrors.
Also once in a great while I haul something heavy.
I once went and got bulk mulch. They heaped my bed full. I drove home
with a level truck. Others that were leaving the mulch pile looked like they
were ready to drag their rear bumpers!

The compressor is up to you. If you want to save money you can do
as I did and manually fill them. You could even fill them with a high pressure
bicycle pump like they use for those skinny tire bikes. It's not like filling
a truck tire. It only takes a little air to fill the air bags.

I can't really say they helped the porpoising much. They just get me level
when I've got extra load in the back. We sometimes haul a 500 LB motorcycle
and firewood and tow at the same time.

I put Firestone's on my dually for pulling my 5er. Stops the jerking caused by concrete interstates and rides very well when unloaded. I should've done this mod to all of my previous tow rigs. It will be my first mod on all future ones!

Yes, it should help considerably, but may not completely eliminate the bouncing. It really helps with my 5er. I got lucky and got both my airbags and remote wireless compressor together for around $500.00. The remote wireless is fantastic, as you can adjust the bags "on the fly", and you don't have to worry about running hoses and wires through the cab of your truck. But it is a bit more expensive. I found mine on Craigs List...you might want to check there first.

I have Firestone airbags with a dash mounted control for the air compressor. I didn't want to have to pull out a pump to fill up bags and I didn't want to spend a tone of money on the remote control. Plus a remote is One more thing with batteries and one more thing to chase down when I needed it! You will not be sorry you put them on at all!!!

I could not agree more. I installed the Viair 10007 on board air system to inflate mine. I have just a little more in mine than a wireless compressor. Plus mine is a 100% duty cycle compressor that I can use for a longer periods of time. One of the expensive parts was the Firestone Dual control panel to inflate each bag independently with a guage. I love this mod.
