Need Headlight Upgrade for 2012 Ram

Drove 2 hours last night in driving rain storm with what seemed to be flashlights instead of headlights. I have always known the headlights are "old school" and not very bright, but last night was brutal.
Anyone have any recommendation for an upgrade?

I thought the headlights in my 2010 were unbelievably poor. My wife's Nissan Versa lights were much better. Switched out to Silver Stars about a year ago and noticed an improvement. Still not as good as the Nissan's however.

I second the recommendation for SilverStars.

SilverStar Ultras.... I use them in all my vehicles that are not equipped with OEM HID lighting. Their only downside is they do not last as long as OEM bulbs. When I was using them daily commuting I averaged about a year before a bulb failure. So carry a spare pair or your old OEM bulbs for a backup.

Do you have fog lights on the truck? If you do run with them on, I run mine 100% of the time except when the bights are on.
This seems to help in provide more light at night for driving.

Yes. I keep them on all the time. They help with illuminating the sides better. But they need to be upgraded also.

I put the Silverstars in both the headlights and fog lights.

A world of difference for a straight substitution without having to go through the HID mods.

A common mod is to install relays with heavy-gauge wire (and appropriate fuses) from the battery directly to the headlights, using the normal electrical "supply" to simply activate the relays.

Here's a page that explains it:
Whiter Whites, Brighter Brights - Ford-Trucks.com

Also, take a look around "Daniel Stern Lighting"

These look good and spendy.. I emailed them to see if they are plug n play or if wiring needs to be modified.
Thx.

These seem like a good short term fix for under 60 bucks or so. Thx.

The stock bulbs were horrible in my '09 F-150.

I tried Sylvania SilverStars and Philips X-treme Power halogen bulbs. They were both brighter but my experience was that they didn't last long. IIRC, the Philips X-tremen Power bulbs lasted less than 6 months (we have daytime running lights in Canada) and the SilverStars were only marginally better than the stock bulbs. With regular halogen bulbs, the brighter (i.e. hotter) they get, the shorter the lifespan.

I tried HID bulbs in the stock housings and got too much glare for my liking, so I upgraded to HID projectors from The Retrofit Source Inc. They made a HUGE difference but it was a bit spendy. Had a guy about 1.5 hours away do the retrofit. Total cost was around $500 to $600 CDN, but well with it IMO. If you go this route, I'd recommend name brand ballasts and bulbs like the ones they use in higher end cars, rather than their "store brand" Morimoto.

So if I understand correctly, the projection is just a different type of reflector assembly not necessarily a different bulb. It just directs the light better?

Do us all a Favor, and ensure that you Properly Aim your Lights for whatever Squat your 5er gives your TV...
There are FAR TOO MANY Trucks out there "Beaming the Treetops" as they drive down the Road at Night. I can always tell when an Oncoming Pickup is Towing "Something", because the Headliner in the Cab of my RAM is Lit Up and my High-Beams are Flashing my Displeasure!!

Thanks for the
recommendation. I wish my headlights could beam the treetops but sadly they barely illuminate the reflectors.

Have Anzo brand in my 99 2500 Ram 4x4......Didn't need to adjust mine, were perfect. Had to loosen front bumper for more room, but didn't have to remove. Anzo's come with every thing needed.

You can all so buff out the plastic lens, most parts houses have kits to get rid of the faded plastic
