Until the sensors fail and they will fail. The failure mode could be as simple as you are backing up the sensor will fail and the trailer ends up in the corner of the garage with damage or down the slop of the camp ground running over someone.

If you read the story you will see the only thing that is controlled is the steering the throttle and brakes are in control of the driver. I have not heard of a lot of people being run over by the cars that self park.

Nope. From the story:

"The driver turns a knob on the dash, and the truck does the rest, steering and controlling the vehicle speed with the gas and brake pedals. "

It also will not work with "Gooseneck" trailers so I assume that means 5th wheels as well.

I also like what Wired called it:
"The 2016 F-150, is the first pickup with what’s called (in true Detroit marketing fashion) Pro Trailer Backup Assist. We call it the n00b knob."

Interesting to see Ford managed to bump the towing capacity to 12K (up 300# from 11,700) Those Ecobeast F150s are really turning into a beast!

I don't know about y'all, but I have a problem with anything other than a mechanic connection to the steer wheels. Power assist is OK, but not something that can take over the steering wheel.

Just my 2 cents.

I wonder if any of these new park assist devices can see the great big tree branch that's about to impact your trailer? As I understand the Ford system, the driver still has to turn the knob in the direction he wants the trailer to go.

I did not read this story, should have, the other story's say that it works like the self parking and you have to control the brakes and throttle. Trust wired to get a car story wrong.
