Need Help with a TOAD

Ok we bought our Georgetown the end of Feb. we thought our FJ Cruiser would be a good toad since it is a 4x4, no you can not tow most Toyotas with wheels on the ground without disconnecting the drive shaft. As part of our deal when we bought the GT was for them to set up our toad, they told us it would take 10 days to get the part, ok I'm good with that, well now over two month later we still have no toad. I just got off the phone them and they have now cancelled the order, because they can't get a delivery date on the part.

Now we are trying to find a good toad, can you please tell me what vehicle can be toad with 4 wheels on the ground without disconnecting the drive shaft.

We have a 2006 vw jetta fwd that we towed on a dolly. Wanted to go 4 down but vw said no. So we got a 2014 jeep patroit 4x4.manual transmission. Got it hooked up to tow 2 days ago. We like it lots. What a diff in hook up. Jeep is no frill options but it looks good! Hope that helps...

We tow my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I could be wrong but it's my understanding that the Wrangler is the only 4x4 that can be towed with all four on the ground.

Very Important with the Wrangler (not sure about the Patriot). it's very simple, but make sure you follow proper proceedure in putting the Jeep in Neutral. No Power Train damage this way.

You'll actually be towing the Jeep while in park, but the transfer case in neutral. (Transmission from part to neutral, transfer case to neutral and then put transmission back in park). It's pretty cool actually, you don't need to keep the key on since on the wrangler the steering wheel does not lock and she won't clock mileage either.

Good Luck in your search.

We have a Toyota but it is manual 5 speed and we have towed it over 30,000 miles no problem, small, light and good for a toad, the key is manual transmission and the manual even says it can be towed 4 down witn out any restrictions. What ever you get, check the manual and do not take a salesman word for it.

Ditto. Do not take the salesman word. Look at the manual under recreational towing! Good luck and let us know

Yep, sales men will tell you what ever you want to hear and not only them. my parents put a deposit on a 2012 Ford Expedition, ordered it with the 100% expectation(in writing) that it would tow 4 down like their last Expedition. My parents had done their research on the internet before going to the dealer but Ford's web site was wrong. Well 2 months later the battle was on and because it was in writing it all worked out. They ended up with a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have been extremely happy.

Is a trailer out of the question? Save wear & tear on the toad.

You are so right sales people will tell you what they think you want know, when we bought the FJ Cruiser we asked if it could be towed they told us YES, the truth is no you can't.

Thank you all very much for your help, we bought a Jeep Wrangler 4x4 this evening, so hopefully tomorrow we will find out when it can be set up as a toad
