Your confusing the OP (Majicdoor), with the picture provided in post #6 (Alvega007), they're two different people.

Sure there are 1/2 tons with more but also plenty of 1/2 tons with less, maybe much less. You can get a Dodge grand caravan with a 1800 pound payload capability but I'd sure rather put 1800 overloaded pounds in my Cummins and drive it across country than 1800 pounds in the back of a minivan and drive across country.

Way back when pickup trucks first hit the market, the "ton" rating was how much it could carry. A "half ton" truck could carry 1000lbs. A "3/4" ton truck could carry 1500 lbs etc. The OP is eyeing a truck with a 1500lb payload capacity so it really is a 3/4 ton.

Put him in the drivers seat and add a fiver hitch and you are under 2K.

That cummins must eat up a lot of payload ! only 1690 in a dodge 2500 is pathetic . my gasser 2003 chevy 2500 hd has a payload of 3206 !

A lot of you are kind of making my point for me. The max payload for a ram 2500 is 3160 lbs. The max payload for the Titan XD is 2500 lbs. Yes that is a difference of 660 lbs but if you are like me and don't need ~3000 lbs of payload why sacrifice ride and drive quality.

2004.5 Ram Cummins 6 speed quad cab 4x4 long bed=
My GVWR is 9000 pounds but the curb weight is 7314, they call it 1690 payload and 12550 tow.

My old 2005 Duramax 4x4, crew cab, long bed, Allison=
GVWR was 9200 pounds, curb weight was 7400 so it was good for 1800 payload but towing was 12,000 even.

both trucks are pretty similar really.

a 2wd gas Titan HD can be had with as much as a 2594 pound payload with a 11,270 pound tow rating.
jack that up to a 4x4, crew cab, diesel version and the payload is eaten down to the 1500 on the sticker above, but with a 1000 pound greater tow rating, pretty close to the 11-14 year old Duramax and Cummins 2500 trucks.
