Need Tires for my TV

I bought a used Expedition last year and the guy selling it had out on some load range E michelins and they now need replaced.
He had the truck for a long time and said the load range e tires really killed the ride quality.

I recall reading in a thread last year that someone (or a few) replaced their tires and saw a nice jump in gas mileage. I can't find the thread or recall what brand or anything.

Usually when I buy tires I don't do tons of research - "round, black, holds air, OK!" is about it.

I know I want LT tires, need 275-17's and don't want to drop a fortune.

What's good, what's to be avoided, what should I be asking?

I use to manage a tire shop and can tell you a load range e will deffinently affect the ride in a negative way. From my experience michelin is a excellent tire as far as life and ride but they usually cost a good bit more than others. Also had very good results with pirelli. But on my personal vehicles the last few years I've been running cooper tires. Good milage good ride and a 100% american company. So if my choice and money wasn't a issue.
Michelin
Pirelli/Cooper
Bfg
Bridgestone
Couldn't give me goodyear.

Using their (michelin) website to find 'my' tire they point to a P class tire...

I know that will ride better (2305 load in lbs vs 3195 for the same size/model in LT).

Thoughts? Experience?
I don't put many miles on this vehicle, but when towing i'm near the max GCWR.

Ditto on the LTX M/S2. I just put 4 on my expedition and love them. Had Continentals as the originals and lasted 70,000. Replaced with Firestone Destinations and they were junk. Only lasted 40,000. Have just put the LTX M/S2 and they are incredible. I debated with going with LT tires or not, but after discussion the option with Discount Tire I chose not to due to I only pull my TT about 3000 miles a year, not enough to justify having LT's, the ride is harder as well.

I know they are a bit more, but well worth it. Last longer, great quality, ride, braking, etc... Reviews has these tires off the charts compared to everything else. Coopers are good to but please do not waste your money on Firestones!

Good luck.

Personally I'd go with a load range c (6 ply). Plus when you go to the lt the tread depth is deeper.

Yes the "P" is what I put on mine. Still pulls the TT great with a wonderful ride.

After a quick search it don't look like there are many options as far as load range in your size other than the std. p metric.

That is what you will want anyway. Do you have a Discount Tire near you? They are great to deal with and have stores all over the country so if you have a problem while traveling, you can get warranty work done at any of their stores. There is a great rebate right now with the tires too.

Did some googling on the suggested tires here and the cooper H/T seems to be a leading choice at this time - not as pricey as the michelins (perhaps $90/tire less) and we have lots of cooper dealers.
