Question Never used a weigh scale

I've never pulled into a scale and I want to know what everything weighs but I don't understand the process. Is there any issue with using scales along the highway. Can I weigh each of the axles? Is there a cost? Thanks

Here you go:
Learn To RV: How to Weigh a Travel Trailer

It's more intimidating to THINK about than to actually DO IT.

As for using scales along the highway. If you can find one that is closed, but leaves the readout on, that's the best situation. You can take your time weighing and not be in anyone's way. There's also a large parking lot where you can hook, unhook, adjust, etc..

If you're using a CAT scale for instance at Pilot fuel plaza, take a three foot stick so you can reach the button. When the lady asks for your company name & truck number, simply say "Private vehicle" and give her any 3 digit number to help identify your specific rig. When she says "Thank you pull around" just park and go to the cashier's desk. Look at the yellow lines on the platform and put your front axle just over the last line near the control panel then make sure your other axles are on corresponding areas of the scale platfirm. $10.50 will get you one of these.....

Better than taking a 3' stick is to go inside first and tell them what you want to do and get the weigh desk phone number and just call them on the phone once on the scale.

Good advice, Bama.

OP: Make sure you take 3 weights like on the website that ependydad linked to and use this site to see what the weights mean.
Actual Weights - Travel Trailer/Bumper Pull Weights from CAT Scales - Towing Planner

When I weighed mine, the lady inside insisted that I could not remove the WDH while sitting on the scale platform. I had to drive on and off 3 times. Not a big deal. You just have to find an out of the way spot in the parking lot where you can leave the trailer when you're weighing the TV by itself.

For all of my weighings, I just stand on the running board of the truck and can reach the button.

BUT- I've also been told that I have long monkey arms.

Everyone is different but I have never weighed my truck and camper and I never expect too. But to each his own.

I haven't either but I know I'm way below my max numbers. I made sure that I wouldn't be pushing the numbers when I bought truck and trailer.

BUT if I was close, I would definitely get my combo weighed. I'm not one of those who likes to brag about how they are overweight and don't care what the specs say.

agreed, if my 21FBRS is overweight with a Ram 2500 then everyone is over weight.

The yellow sticker on my trailer says I can carry more than 3900 hundred pounds, no way I'll ever get that close

Its very simple, find the closest truck stop. Most if not all have a CAT scale, just pull on it fully and they will weigh your truck axels seperately and both your trailer axels combined, the ticket is a certified scale weight for each axel plus total weight of both vehicles. the cost most recently was $10.00. If you want to weigh seperatly the first weight is $10.00 then the next weigh is just a couple of bucks. I would not advise pulling into a DOT Weigh station along the highway to do this. but any truck stop will be happy to help you.

Spock are you sure, 3900 lbs is a lot of payload above the weight of the Trl

That's what it says. I think it was almost 3,000lb and with the G614 it went up to almost 4,000lb

G614 is a tire right? They won't increase your payload, it is still whatever FR says it is, so still 3000. Unless you also put heavier axles on as well.
