Bullet Proofing

The first 6.0's had some problems that COULD crop up at around 100 to 125K miles. I chose to not wait and because I'm retired and need to keep busy, I chose to be pre-emptive. I did the EGR cooler, and oil cooler changed to external, IPR water filter and head studs. Because you have the whole top of the motor off, why not pull the heads and put in the studs and better gaskets. Admittedly getting the left head off (need a special offset socket for the back bolt) wasn't something I'd like to do every day.
With everything that came with the truck, exhaust, GV Overdrive and it being a 550, Husky Hitch Class IV receiver (I bought it used with only 28000 miles on it, I felt it was worth doing to end up with a 300,000 mile truck for les than 35000 dollars. Took about a week of work and a sore back, but feel it was worth it.

Thanks for the kind words, gents... I'm hoping to get 300K miles outa this truck with just maintenance... But then there is the old saying about wishing in one hand and poopin' in the other... and seeing which one fills up first...

Does this mean that GM and Chevy Trucks blow up like China Bomb tires?

My experience with GM took them out of my buying picture totally... Even though that's been a long time ago, the old saying still rings true... "Screw me once, shame on you. Screw mw twice, shame on me." To those that own GM products, I hope you get better treatment from them than I did. Too bad the lemon laws weren't around back then.

I have been a Ford guy for a long time. However, this new truck is just as nice and runs strong enough for me, at a better bottom line. I will readily admit that I liked the Ford a touch better, but couldn't justify the extra $6K for nearly the same equipment. Now that I have the Ram, I like it enough to say... I LIKE IT!!!

I never was a GM person. Since I was a kid I was a Ford guy. Have a few buddies with the 6.0 Ford who got screwed over by Ford. Bought my first ever Ram in 2007 and loved it. Traded up to the 2013 Ram 2500 and love it even more. I think the massive amount of GM recalls should speak volumes of what your buying.

GM products, for me, have always enjoyed the dealer's garage more than mine. I like my Fords and would consider a Ram or Toyota but there will be no GM products in my future.

I like GM stuff, but I haven't driven any in 11 years. That video is enlightening and entertaining at the same time-it only scratches the surface of the issue.
But.... no politics here, so I'll quit while I'm ahead.
