i get 10 to 12 towing, 14 or so around town and 20 on the hiway. im driving a 08 duramax 2wd, which isnt what you were looking for. but im getting the same empty miles as my 05 6.0 chebbie gasser was. i was getting 6 to 7 tow mileage from the gasser too. nobody is getting spectacular fuel economy with any of the big 3 heavy (diesel) pickups. doubtful the gassers are getting any better mileage either.

Tell the dealer that you'll take the truck based on his numbers with the condition that if it doesn't produce you will bring it back and he will do the delete on his dime with full warranty.

The problem with comparing mileage from Fuelly is you have no idea if any of them trucks have been modded.

people dont buy deisels for their economy even tho they seem to get better towing mileage than their gasser counterpart. they are bought so that you can come up to a mountain or big hill you know you will be able to flatten it. they are a bit exspensive to use as an everyday driver if your just running out for milk and bread.

Yeah I know I was just curious.

I'll find out soon enough. Just bought a 2012 dodge 2500 Cummings high output. Pick it up Monday. So we will see.

As far as voiding the warrantee, a cold air I take system will give you a little more HP and torque , which I know I won't need. It will also give 1-2 mpg extra, and it dose not void the warrantee, however I am not sure about the performance tuners. I have heard they do not void your warrantee, and hat any mod you do to the engine has to be directly related to a failure for some thing not to be covered, so I.l keep looking into it..

Don't expect much other than improved throttle response, a tune will do the rest.

I have a 2010 2500 and put a cold air intake and bully dog tuner on, I can really feel the difference when I take the tuner off and set it back to factory. And from what I understand is if anything is found that changed the settings of the comp will void your warranty. So be careful, I would still recommend the tuner! Love it

Frank,

Did you get any improvement in MPG?

Which cold air intake did you go with?

Your MPG's will get worse because at WOT the sound will be awesome, so in city driving forget about mpgs and impress the locals

I put an Injen CAI and Buddy Club Dual cat back with test pipe (Cat delete), on my Honda S2000 and at 9000rpm......... Man did that wake the neighbors (and kill a few Penguins), Injen claimed a 12hp inc I noticed a definite improvement especially in stop start driving, response was better, without the CAI in hot weather it traffic it used to bog.

Well can't really say if I improved on mpg because it wasn't long after I bought the truck I added everything. I think currently my computer shows 13 mpg but that's all city when I have taken out for long stretches on the hwy I was up to 21. I can't remember the name of cold air intake, I know it was the one that had an optional scoop, at the time I bought the scoop would not fit the new body so I didn't purchase it.

I have 2006 3500 SRW mega cab 5.9. 3.73 gears. Pulling my Sanibel 3500 5th I get 14-16 all day at 55-60 mph
Empty on the road I get 24-28@ 60-65 mph. This truck has 90k on it, bought new!
Very happy

Yep,love the 5.9.------However,The 6.7 with how shall we say a few missing parts ain't no slouch either.I get 11-13 mpg towing the 320 Crusader, and if I keep my foot out of the Turbo I can do 20-21 empty hwy. But that's just me. And,I have caught at least more than one ricer flat footed at the light. Just saying.

Well I pick mine up tomorrow. I stopped at the dealer yesterday to look at it..since they had to bring it from another dealer. They drove it..and the computer showed 16 MPG.

The thing looks like a monster I can't wait until tomorrow. I'm not gonna do all my mods and tricking out at once, I'll go broke
So I'll go through the winter before I add a cold air intake. Then I will be able to gauge a difference I hope..
Can't wait to pull my camper...I have to move my boat to storage this week so I'll get to really test it then. Boat weighs 10k lbs.

Kozzy,I have not been paying attention to all the posts. Are you keeping the Hemi in addition to the Cummins or trading it in? Still sounds kinda new!

I get new trucks like I change under pants haha.

I'm trading in the HEMI...love that truck, I do, but next winter I'm getting back into snowplowing again, so I needed to bump up to at least a 3/4 ton...and since I have a fairly large camper and boat..I decided to go with the diesel to make towing easier...
I was going to wait until next fall, but I got a great deal this year, so decided to trade in now..

If your in the position that you can do that, more power to you.I had an '03 Hemi before this '08 Cummins and loved it as well.Kept it for 7 years and nary a problem with it.But if this is your first diesel,I'm telling ya you'll never go back. The smile on your face especially towing when that exhuast brake kicks in on them steep grades! Well you'll see.
