After 4 years of trusty service from my 2012 Eccobeast it was time to make the move into the next truck. Brought this beast home yesterday to meet the family.

2016 F350 XLT, with XTR plus. Has fifth wheel prep package amongst all sorts of other goodies. Can't wait to haul the 295RST with this creature. .

Looks just like mine, except mine is black. So glad I got the XTR XLT and not the fancy schmancy lariat. This is plenty of luxury for me. We are just about to hit the return leg of our first trip in it. Wow wow wow. I have zero regrets. I came from an 07 F150 5.4L. I like the power going up hills and am amazed by the engine braking going back down the hills.

Do you have the buckets and full center console?

Flow through centre console. That is the only option for me in a truck. I LOVE the storage in the centre console.

All my trucks have been XLT. I cannot handle leather in a truck. A complete nonstarter for me. Add to that the significant cost jump in the Lariat the XLT is my sweet spot.

The ride is definitely way stiffer than the F150 but nothing I cannot deal with.

This is my first center console true and I love it.
So many people question why I got an XLT and not a lariat. Have even heard people ask "why didn't you get a lariat, something you would actually like to drive ". Well I like driving this!

I have had my F350 PS SRW for a couple of months now and have no regrets what so ever. My trailer really didn't warrant that size of truck but I got a great deal on a 2015 so I jumped on board. The first pull i made with it was form Colorado back to Texas in a 20 mph head wind, it didn't even care that there was a trailer behind it.

Setting the cruise and letting it run is great.
No loud engine noise pulling grades is great,
Truck weighting more than the trailer is great and feels like you are in control
When not pulling a trailer, having the extra HP is a lot of fun.

Since I have been driving the 350 I struggle to drive my F150 company truck with a 5.0 gas because it takes so freaking long to get up to speed ...........

Now you get to read all the threads (arguments) about DEF, Regen cycles, Fuel additives, Programmers, Voiding Warranties, Which diesel truck is best, what oil to use, on and on.

J-N-D WTexas, yup I am just starting my reading and research on DEF etc, etc. It is becoming a bit of a crash course...


Overall I was very pleased with the towing experience. Rumbling along at 1100 RPM at 100KM/H in 6th was amazing. We took it up and down a 6% grade and I mashed it going up and smiled. The exhaust brake was a joy as well.


That said I've spent years reading diesel owners saying that you can haul 12,000 lb rigs 'without even knowing it is back there'. Nonsense. I know its back there! Hard to miss 30 feet of rig...


The biggest thing for me is the weight ratio between the truck and trailer. With the truck being so much heavier it just adds more stability when puling in wind etc.

So here is what I have learned regarding Powerstrokes so far: Just sharing for fun and not giving any advise to anyone. Everyone has there own opinion on all of this items and I simply offer mine.

1. DEF fluid is pretty much all the same. As long as it API approved run it. Walmart has the cheapest but I run Peak DEF just because it is everywhere.

2. Motor oil. I will run straight up MotorCraft like the owners manual says.

3. Tuner absolutely not: Every post I have read regarding a major malfunction on most diesels has involved a tuner of some sort. Not saying all tuners are bad but unless I don't have a choice I won't be installing one.... Well at least not until its my back up truck......

4.No lift kits and no big tires: I am just getting too old to climb that far up and believe it causes other issues when you modify one that much.

5. The air filter can make or break performance on a diesel no matter a truck, tractor or bulldozer. I will be changing mine regularly and since I won't be modifying it, it will stay stock with a standard issue filter.

6. I drive the heck out of it, I don't hit it so hard you blow the inter cooler hose off of it but I am not afraid to put my foot in it.

7. Check the air pressure in the tires: I found mine set extremely high. I ended up with 65 in front 75 in the rear (may lower it to 65 as well)

8. I don't worry about the regen cycle, it does its thing and I just drive it. If it short cycles because I get to my destination first it will start over next time I get it hot enough to start the cycle again.

9. Fuel filters, follow the manufactures recommendations. Check for water in the tank filter every two or three months.

I spent the first few weeks worry about all the differences between gas and diesel. It was a waste of time........ Just drive it and enjoy it.

No tuner for me, no interest. Just not worth any potential risk.

I will be putting my foot into it; the truck is built to DRIVE.

Amen to that. We towed a 40' full profile 5er this summer over the Canadian Rockies, the Cascades and other hilly bits around Washington and Oregon. Tow Haul and the engine braking system take all the heavy work out of descending the downward bits.
