I'd check your door jam for sticker for correct towing weight.. Later RJD

My understanding is that the eco diesel is rated to tow just over 8K pounds so that sounds about right to me. But as others have said look for the yellow sticker on the door jam.

New ram 1500 Eco diesel question

Rockwood 8280 fifth wheel or 8,280 lb trailer? Either way I wouldn't do it since the payload rating is typically about 1200 lbs. I have never seen a tow rating rating on a door sticker. Maybe this is something new.

Truck would need the payload to support the hitch weight, fiver hitch, driver and passengers. Do the math.

I wouldn't tow a fiver with it.

Your towing weigh is approximately 8,000lbs for the 3.55 axle and 9,000lbs for the 3.9 axle. Your payload is probably around 1200 to 1300 lbs. I wouldn't tow a fiver with it. Your pin weight will eat most of you rpayload

What about the 2902 Ultra-Lite ?

My truck handles the 2604WS. (But I don't have air springs.)

Pretty sure if you check the EcoDiesel website. You cannot have a 5th wheel with the air spring truck. (Something in the way ??)
.
some fifth wheel hitches say they don't fit (Curt) installation instructions....

"Drilling into the vehicle frame is required to install this product
When using a slider with this hitch, the lowest height setting will not be able to be used on the hitch
Hitch installation is not recommended for models with Rambox
Product does not fit models with factory Air Suspension system"
.

I would never use a 1/2 ton for pulling a 5th wheel. That eco diesel is Ok for small trailers but runs out of steam real quick once you pass 60MPH. I saw a road test on the ram eco, the ford ecoboost 2.7 and 3.5, the chevy/gmc 5.3 and 6.2 gas motors. In the test the ram eco did fine until it had to hit the highway, it doesn't have the power you really need. Go with the ram 2500/3500 6.4 hemi or the 6.7 diesel. At least get a 3/4 ton truck to handle the bed load.

I have a 2014 Ram 1500 Ecodiesel without air suspension. I tow a Rockwood 2604WS that weighs about 6200 pounds loaded for travel. The engine and transmission handle this load with ease as long as you realize you've only got about 183 cubic inches of engine under the hood. The engine has a lot of torque at 2,000-3,000 rpm so it never seems to be really straining to do it's job. This is NOT a Cummins, it is not a 6.4 Hemi, and it will not be happy towing 10,000 pounds. It is a quiet, smooth half-ton that gets about 15 mpg towing, 23-24 not towing and 26 on interstate trips. Payload limitations are the limiting rating. As delivered, my yellow door sticker shows 1,200 pounds payload. With the 6,200 pound trailer (800 pounds tongue weight), me, the DW, the dog and a few tools in the bed I'm 80 pounds over the payload rating and 90 pounds over the 6,950 pound GVWR. It's a nice truck, it's not a heavy duty truck.

Sounds like a great set up.

There are many questions on this combo, my concern is w/air suspension how the truck react to the weight of the 5th wheel, handling ,stopping. If this truck was to pull a TT how would theWDH be adjusted to transfer weight to the front axle . this is a new system , maybe Dodge can help.

We tow our 6000+ pound Wildwood with our EcoDiesel and it pulls it with ease getting 16 mpg. But...I would never tow a 5th wheel with it because of payload concerns surrounding the very heavy pin weights. On the EcoDiesel forum there are folks towing up to 14,000 pounds (foolishly) so towing ability isn't the question. Payload is the problem.

+1. We have exactly the same setup. Same fuel mileage. Same towing satisfaction.

The EcoDiesel has the same horsepower and torque as my 1993 Chevy one-ton with 6.5 factory turbocharged Detroit diesel. (Same setup as the Military HumVee)

I can't believe that this little 3.0 can put out that much power? When I mention it to anybody, they just say "that's the new technology"

I have an EcoD with 3.55 gears, it handles my 2604WS just fine. IMO, you will run out of payload and "control" before you run out of power. My opinion is that 8500# is about all I would tow, and I wouldn't want much more than a 30' trailer. To me, the 2604 is about a perfect match.... some tow more, but I wouldn't. My trailer scaled at 6500ish and I was a couple hundred over on payload with 900# TW, generator and wife and me in truck. We have added a few more items to the trailer, so I'm guessing that I'm close to 7k with a little water on board.

Hope it helps....

OldBob has summed it up the best! Too many people, especially sales people simply look at towing capacity and not payload...OldBob is bang on!
