My 2002 F250 extended cab, short bed, SRW, powerstroke rode pretty well for a heavy duty truck. I had Firestone airbags under it which I basically used to level the headlights when loaded heavy, say with 2 tons on the bed. It was tolerable when empty but really rode quite well with 1000-1500 lbs in the bed.
My 2016 F350 crew cab, long bed dually, Powestroke rides only fairly well until I get at least 2500 lbs on the bed. I do have Firestone air bags with frame mounted air compressor to level the truck if I am moving my dozer around. Otherwise, I just keep 10 lbs of air in the bags to keep them inflated. With the 5er hooked up, I put about 30-35 lbs of air in the bags to level the truck but it doesn't squat much when hooking up the 5er, about 1.25-1.50 of an inch. Empty, it rides really rough but the main reason is that I keep my tire air pressure very high. 75 psi cold on the fronts, 70 psi cold on the rears. That gives me great tread life on the OEM tires.
