New to me TV

After reading all the posts of diesel vs gas and cost comparisons. I bit the bullet and purchased a new to me 2012 F250 lariat power stroke. Yesterday I used it on a short trip, I got between 19 and 21 mpg. It rode and handled great with tons of power. I haven't had a chance to tow my Windjammer yet, just got another 9 inches of snow here waiting on the spring thaw. That gives me time to read the owners manual and figure how to set the inter grated brake controller along with all the other bells and whistles. Thanks again for all the posts concerning gas vs diesel strong arguments on both sides, I just chose the diesel side.

Bottom line is what ever it takes to make YOU happy.

Congratulations on the NTY rig.

So did I a couple of weeks ago. Like you, just waiting on the spring thaw. I have to setup the hitch all over again. So far, I'm a happy Lariat owner.

My previous TV was a gas F250, I believe the rear height is about the same, so I don't think I will need to adjust the hitch, it should be pretty close. But you don't know till I hook it up. What do you think ?

I am guessing your hitch setup will be fine. The Gas and Diesel sit about the same in the rear. The integrated brake controller takes about 30 seconds to setup. Start high and work down. I keep mine at 9.0 once the brakes are warmed up. It is on 10 the first 15 miles or so.

9.0 really, my other brake controller on my gas 250 ( not inter grated ) was set on 3. It is that much difference ?

I think it is trailer to trailer. My old trailer was like you, 3-4. New trailer is 5000lbs heavier, so I guess it is no surprise I need more power to stop it.

WOW, I have been towing my 7500lb Windjammer with my f250 gasser and a after market brake controller with it set on 2.5 to 3.5 depending upon conditions. Maybe I needed to give the trailer more brake. Same trailer different truck, f250 power stroke. Never had any problems stopping the TT, I really kept my distance from all traffic as much as possible and I was real careful. On my previous truck any more than 3.5 felt like the trailer was slowing the truck, just did not feel right. I am not new to towing, but in the past 6000 lbs of boat. This TT is a different animal. I have read the owners manual and viewed you tube videos, they state pull the TT at 25mph, then activate the trailer brake till they lock without applying the tow vehicle brake then back off the number by .5. I guess I have not been towing properly. I am open for suggestions. Thanks

Now that sounds like my experience with my F150. I never went over 3.5 on the brake controller. At 3.5, I only had to touch the brake pedal and the trailer would slow the truck really quick. I generally ran at 2.5-3.

I haven't hooked up to the trailer yet, its just to crappy with all the snow and freezing rain. Time will tell.

That is exactly how you set it up. When I had my Tekonsha Prodigy and the TT in my Tundra, I set it at 4.0 once the brakes warmed up. Same TT on the F150 with integrated and I set it at 7.5. The Big Puma I have now, she needs most of it...
