I have a 2011 f 250 superduty supercab SRW 4X4 diesel i'm wondering what I have to do for towing . ford says 15900 towing and I have no idea on the hitch weight on the truck . The camper is 16216 full load and 2536 hitch weight . I hope someone can help ----air bags ,spring assist,or I hope i'm good just being a little over weight .

I have a 2012 F250 gas and I'm at my max cargo with a 2300 lb pin weight. I would suspect that you will be considerally over your cargo capacity. Won't be able to tell until you get your F250 weighed. You will definately need bags or helper springs. The F250 2011 and newer are soft in the rear.

that does not sound good for me if I only need air bags or helpers I can deal with that . If I have to buy a new dually that would suck I never gave the hitch weight a thought . Hoping for some better news ;-(

The only way to know where you are at is to get it weighed and analyze the numbers. There are several threads on this forum about weighing your set up.

Sorry to say it but that is way to heavy for a 3/4 ton. I would say you are in dually range easy. My rig is around 1800 hitch weight empty and I am borderline with a 1 ton srw.

Depending on what model cab , Look at your door sticker and tables for Ford towing. Go to My 21013 F250 Crew cab 4x4 can handle 3000 pin, but calculates with my setup 13500 gross trailer weight. Back end does not sink down with 2500 lbs pin. But maybe you can lighten up some and be OK by not carrying water.

Get the data and run the calculators at Fifth Wheel Weight Calculator..

No Way!
The Ford book says
F-250 Supercab with diesel 4x4 max is 16,100 lbs for a 5th wheel.
The only way to get more weight is going to a F-350 Supercab 2x4 dually diesel which has a max 21,100 (2011 book)

You may be able to do it but it's not gonna be fun! Problem with the 250 is you run out of payload fast and your pin weight (hitch weight) counts toward your payload capacity. Your truck prob has a 10k gvwr and weighs about 8-8200. That only leaves you 1800-2000 payload not including anything you put in truck. Like passengers, dog, junk, etc.... That rear end is gonna sag like hell and your headlights will be pointing north. A 350 single wheel would be better but your stability wise you would love a dually. If you keep your trips local and not to frequent, maybe some air bags will get you buy. A lot of trips and long distances personally your asking for trouble.

If that 5er was mine I would use a 1 ton Dually or larger.

Load it and weigh it. I was worried also. My dry weight was advertised at 10000 and I weighed in loaded at 11300.

The only difference between (according to many) between a 250 and a 350 is an additional spring and an axle spacer block that is 2 inches taller. Add those and you have a SRW 350.
That being said, now you have to look at tire ratings, anti-sway bar, air bags...
Do you have a 3.55 rear end (axle code 35 or 3J) ? It looks like the 3.73 (axle code 37 or 3L/3E) is what gives the extra tow rating to the 350, but that ratio is only available on the DRW model.
My concern is stability. I have never pulled anything that heavy with a SRW, so I don't know what it would feel like, but a 3.55 rear end wouldn't be fun...

I pull with my F250 Crew 4x4 6.7 my 5th wheel 13000 lb 2200 pin loaded very well. The truck has 3.55 gear and 20" wheel rims. and dry weight Its pulls it well 10-12 mpg, hangs out in 6th Gear most of the time once you hit 50 mph. I have 20 inch wheel and have the heavy tow package 10000 GVRW package 3250 payload rating 15700 max tow. I may get air bags but the weight settles down nicely and has nice ride.

I missed the diesel part somehow. I think it's good to go with springs or air bags, but that's just an opinion. Sounds like Bobfa is good with his. Have you pulled it far?

Yours may be fine but the rig the op is talking about is 2536 pin weight I'm assuming he got that from the brochure which we all know will be closer to 3000 loaded. And he states his weight at 16k+. There's a lot of diff there. Where did you get the 3250 payload from yours at? All of the ford diesels I've owned with 20" rims are 8k plus. And with the 10k gvwr I only see 2k payload. I know the tires and axle ratings are higher but wasn't sure if the newer diesels are any lighter? Thanks

From the specs, the camper has a dry hitch weight of 2,536:

Cardinal Fifth Wheel by Forest River

Dry Hitch Weight - 2,536 lbs.
Unloaded Vehicle Weight - 10,110 lbs.
GVWR - 16,216 lbs.
Cargo Carrying Capacity - 6,106 lbs.

The dry hitch weight percentage (2536 / 10110) is 25%.

If you were load to the gills and hit GVWR (16k) that gives you a pin weight of 4,067 pounds.

Since loading 6,000 pounds of cargo is unfathomable, let's assume that you split the difference and load 3,000 pounds. At an actual loaded weight of 13,110 pounds, you're looking at a pin weight in the ballpark of 3,288 pounds.

The ballpark pin weight above assumes the percentage doesn't increase. Often times it does by 1-3% for fifth wheels since the bulk of the storage is up front (at 28%, the pin weight increased by 400 pounds).

That's a lot of weight.

I know Ford shaved off some weight from 2010 to 2011 but I do not know about the 2012 on up.

OP, I would say weigh your truck and see what your start out numbers are. See what your rear axle weighs and go from there. I am towing a 5er with 3000# pin weight and my total towed load is 18,000+- with a 2500 but my truck don't weigh 7000#. If you want a new truck then now's your chance. I believe you can make it work if you get set up properly.
