We tow almost entirely in 6th gear with our Eco with 3.73s. Your 3.15s in 5th are almost identical in ratio to our 3.73s in 6th. You will be fine. Don't sweat it and have a great time.

Thanks much for the vote of confidence; your post is much appreciated. The more I research, the better I feel. Now if next Friday would just get here...

Yeah, you've got all kinds of torque available. Have fun. Be safe.

Just a follow-up to let you all know the truck handled the trailer easily. Took the O/D advice and locked out 6th gear in the hills. Hardly knew the trailer was there.

Not sure my EQ setup is tuned in right so I'll have the dealer give it a once-over.

Only able to get 9.7 driving through the hills on the return trip pulling around 6200 lbs. Flat interstate was much better (almost 12mpg). I'm sure the 3:73 gears are the ultimate complement to the EB engine, and the 3:55 gear setup might be the best compromise of MPG and performance, but I'm very happy with the way the 3:15s handled the load and real happy with the 23/24mpg unhooked driving out here on the these country roads.

Thanks again for your cumulative advice to this ole newbie...

great to hear! i have YET to talk to an eco owner who was dissapointed with its towing abilities......especially for those who tow only occasionaly. I have ONE friend who traded his in for a 6.7 diesel......but with 5 different trailers, i think it suited his needs better from the get go....

enjoy! maybe well pass ya while cruising through hill country soon!

Previously owned a 07 F150 with the 5.4. Bit the bullet this year and bought a 2012 ecoboost. No complaints at all. Pulls our 28' tt with ease. Very impressed in how it does on the mountains and hills. Doesn't loose any power.
