I found out the hard way that my ecoboost loves hauling but not up hills. Travelling backfrom MAss to NB Canada after purchasing our new 27RKSS I had 30 minles to the good trying to get to Sams Club in Bangor Me. some 12 miles away. Then I hit hills and 2 miles to go to the exit I hit 1 mile to empty.
As I took the exit my wife spotted a gas station to my right "saying theres one and pointing."
3/4 of a mile to my right across a field...while the road turned to the left out around the airport.
O miles to empty hauling a trailer some 3 miles later I got to a red light, looked at my wife and said "your pushing if this unit runs out of gas."
Another mile and we got to the gas station she saw earleir and wouldn't you know it 2 cars are just pulling up to the pumps.

So she bails out of the truck and goes inside to get a coffee to calm her nerves.
Needless to say this truck gets great gas mileage - even better when its empty.

Isn't it totally crazy that their premiere towing motor doesn't allow the larger fuel tank?

My wife and I were listening to a book on CD while towing across Wyoming. Kinda got involved in the book and wasn't paying enough attention. All of a sudden the low fuel warning goes off. Panic time. Wyoming is not a place to push your tank to the limits. Thankfully we made it but I know the feeling.

I believe you are correct on that point. An 8ft box is nice (I miss having one) but, for me, the wheelbase is unacceptably long in conjunction with extended or crew cab.

I know what you mean -- 26 gallon's does not seem like a good fit in a tow vehicle. Ford should rethink putting the 36 gal tank in all max tow vehicles - even those equipped with the EcoBeast motor. I would have preferred that 36 gallon tank! Imagine traveling over 700 on one tank of fuel -- Of course that would be without towing.

so far have put just over 300 miles on the truck and it's at 1/4 tank. I'm pretty impressed -- so far 20% savings in fuel from the 2004 Titan.

UPDATE - EB to get 36 Gallon Tank in 1012

from Ford....

Ford announced a host of enhancements to your favorite F-150s, including more off-road capability for the Raptor, more sizzle for the FX2 and FX4 package and even a 36-gallon fuel tank on the 2012 Ford F-150 EcoBoost® for up to 756 miles between fill ups.

I believe it. It seems that Titans are a little tough on gas . .

Do you happen to have a link on that information? Not challenging you. Just would like to see it if you happen to have it.

Its a link currently on front page of Ford.com

hope this link works... The Ford Story: Ford Storms State Fair of Texas with F-150 News

Ford probably heard that buyers were interested in the 36 gal tank... I know this was of interest when we 'pulled the trigger.'

I tried the run it to see how accurate it is. I put 135.1 liters in a tank that holds 136. I was towing the trailer. The computer was pretty accurate. Told me I had less than 10 kms left and it dings a lot when you get that low. Funny part is I told my wife that she'd have to push too! You should've seen the look I got!

I have been looking at the F-150 eco-boost models, but I don't want an 8' bed. And for some reason if you choose the ecoboost engine it won't let you choose a short bed. Only an 8' bed for any cab style.

Mine idled (the truck, not my wife) like it was on 1/2 a tank with about -4 miles to empty at that point. I even took pictures with my cell phone with it registering )miles to Empty and teh rpm gauge up.

I was told at 100 miles left to empty we are now filling the truck while hauling.
Then I asked if she wanted to drive - to which I was told if I pushed from the front of the truck...

...
We now stop at 100 miles to E.

Did you use the Ford site? A few days ago I was able to build a F150, Supercrew, short bed (5.5 I think) with the Ecoboost with no issues. Problem I ran into was I had to select the 3.73 axle to get max towing, but I wasn't able to find the max towing package anywhere to add. Now the Ford build site isn't working, so I can't verify anything.

Some ford dealer web sites work well for the build & price app..(not all) or try going directly to Ford.com.. As you "build" go through each and every package and read the details part on each choice there is available..some packages will give you what you want.. and save a few dollars...I am hoping a F 150 supercab, XLT 4x4, 3.5 ecoboost, 6.5 foot box, 3.73 rear end, with Max towing pkg,and Max payload pkg, would be rated for 11,300 lbs towing and have a payload capacity of close to 3,000 lbs for 2012..

Yeah, I was trying it with a XL model. I can pick the ecoboost, but only with an 8' bed. I just tried it with the XLT and it will let me pick a short bed. Arrgg...

Anyone with the supercab... Is there enough room for adults in the back seats ?

I think this has to do with the algorithym used on miles to go before empty. It is using recent mileage history against your remaining fuel. It obviously cannot anticipate the change in mileage once you hit the hills and fuel consumption increases. Somebody mentioned that there is something you can do about that. But since I don't have one, can't help you there. You might want to check that out.

I have the Supercab in a 2006 and it's not bad for short trips for adults. I think they redesigned the back seats, so they should be even better.

Check out the black FX2 here (drool)

2012 Ford F-150 Gets Powertrain Upgrades and New Visuals

Just noticed it mentions this too "Also, the capacity of the fuel tank of the 2012 F-150 EcoBoost 4X4 has been increased to 36 gallons, thus extending the range to 576 miles". So only the 4X4 gets the 36 gallon tank?

Yea, I saw somewhere that you can change the miles to go estimator to "towing" so it gives a better miles left estimate.
