New Truck

Got a new truck yesterday.
Been looking for about 6 months, finally one came in that had everything we were looking for.
2017 GMC 3/4 ton, 4:10 rear end, loaded up with all the options we wanted for traveling.

The "grade braking" is sweet, just remember to hold tow-haul button in for 5 seconds after hooked up.

What would any of you that bought a new TV consider a good "break in" time before you hooked up to your trailer?
My last one, I honestly didn't even think about it and pulled our bumper pull the day after picking it up at the dealer and never had an issue.
Maybe I screwed up?

You should check in your manual. I seem to recall that it was 1,000 MI. However mine is a diesel.

What the owner's manual says. I suspect it would be fine like you did with your other one, but with the price of the truck, why tempt fate. It's not worth it.

Love the chevy/gmc. I just upgrade from a 2012 2500 Ram to a 2015 3500 GMC. After driving this for a month I'd never go back

What's the significance of this? Does this lock out OD? I pulled my new fiver in tow haul but I didn't lock out OD. Is this something that is necessary? I pulled through the utah side of the Rockies up parleys canyon (this is a no joke pull, almost as bad as i70 out of Denver) and didn't notice anything abnormal and then through Wyoming to flaming gorge. Sorry to thread jack but curiosity got the best of me. The only other truck I've ever pulled with was a 2012 ram diesel but it was a standard transmission.

With a little load it will ride well and the fuel economy while not good improved. The cab comfort is great with improved "steps". The 6. ltr. with 6 speed automatic with 4:10 ratio is a , known durable drivetrain. The braking is always impressive on a new truck

Enjoy the new feeling.

Ask yourself, does a semi tractor waste time putting on 1000 miles on it before a revenue generatoring load is attached to it? NOPE!

Only thing I'd make sure I'd do is make sure the brakes are properly bedded in before towing.

Whether you are towing or not, make sure you vary engine speed and engine load for the first 1000 miles or so.

Congrats on the new truck. I love my 2017 Silverado 1500 CC and you are probably going to love your truck too.

Read the owners manual because I don't think you have to use the tow/haul unless your payload or towing weight are more than 3/4's of the rated capacity or you are in a driving situation where the trans would be shifting a lot.

My Silverado is rated to tow 11,000 lbs and my TT has a dry weight of 5,600 lbs. I only use tow/haul when I am in hilly areas and the hills need to be steep. Most of the hills here in NH and ME aren't steep enough to need it.

Don't have to keep hittin the brakes going downhill. I don't know what it does but i'm happy it does what it does when it knows when to do it. Plus a little extra ,when you hit the turn signal in tow haul your blinker flashes 6 times not 3. fyi

Update to this thread.
My GMC pulls 100% different than the chevy did,
Can't explain why but the ride is like comparing a chevette to a cadilac.
So much smoother, even the revolution pin box is quieter.
First thing the DW said was how much quieter and smoother the ride is.
The squat when hooking up on the chevy was maybe 3/4", on the GMC, you can't even see it.
I really see the difference when unhooking. On the Chevy, I could just drop the landing legs, raise it enough to get off the hitch and lower back down a hair and trailer was level.
On the GMC, I have to leave at least 2" above the ground on the landing legs or I can't lower it down enough to be level.
Yes I know that means it tows a bit more out of level, but for the difference in handling and ride, it is well worth it..
Have about 1500 miles on towing with it now and loving every minute.
