The ENGINE by itself is a beast I feel. Even better than the 6.2 Ford. I mean it would hold speed or even accelerate slightly on some fair grades, but it was in second doing it.. It sure sounded good though up there around the 5K rpm mark. The Ford however, has better transmission gearing and thats what allows the newer ford (2017 and up) that was updated recently be a better choice to me, were I too look at a gasser again, Unless Ram were to put that magic 8 speed behind that 6.4 then that would be really interesting!

Thanks for the info as I kind of figured you where towing a bigger trailer. We shall see on the new 2019 Rams when they become available in April or May I heard rummer that maybe 8 speed may be in the works. Later RJD

Nice choice, you look so happy

We 2 are also Ford fans. Our 2013 F250 King Ranch 6.7L turbo diesel has an amazing amount of amenities and smooth ride. When droving to take care of elderly parents and not towing we get 24.2 mpg. When towing our 8900 lb RW Windjammer we get 12.9.
The power and stability is outstanding during tow. 400 hp 800 foot pounds torque allows us to drive with ease.

Our 2019 F350, which we ordered, arrived a few weeks ago. Ordered an xlt, crew cab, 4x4 short bed, diesel with factory 5th wheel package, camper package, factory bed liner, high mount rear camera. Actually had to re-order the truck it since the camera was missed. Have on order a Cedar Creek Champaign 38EL.

Looking at autoslider 5th wheel hitches from Pullrite and Demco. Does anyone have experience with either hitch? Both manufacterers offer models to to fit directly into the factory puck mounts. Pullrite max wight is 18000 lbs for the Ford mount and Demco is 21000 lbs. Trailer max weight is 18000 lbs, empty @14000 lbs Talking with hitch shop in Elkhart, ID, their experience is that it's unlikely I would exceed 16500 lbs even for extended stay.

I would not settle for anything less than having an 8’ bed, especially on a super cab. This criteria however currently makes it almost impossible to find!

After searching for months on Ford’s website I finally found what I wanted at a dealership about 90-minutes from our house.
Did most of the negotiating by email for the price of the truck and my trade (2011 Ram 1500).
Went out to see it today and made the deal!
Was only looking for a XLT version but very happy we ended up with a Lariet package F-250.
Won’t be towing with it until the spring, hopefully by then I will have figured out all the fancy bells & whistles this thing has!

F-250 Lariet Super Cab 6.2L 8’ bed.
Looks like a Great choice to me !
Would love to have one with short bed !

YESSERIE!

YES THANK YOU from me and I am sure MTBiker!! I am VERY happy with the truck purchase, am SO LOOKING forward to our first trip back up into the mountains as I am VERY confident the truck will tow in ULTIMATE FORM!!

That Windjammer look is AWESOME! That is actually the trailer we looked at, fell in love with and decided it was time to upgrade from Gas Suburban to a Diesel Pick-m-up truck...not sure that is the trailer we will end up in as since then some other Rockwood UltraLites have caught our eye and those might be the end go to OH WHAT FUN to dream ain't it?!?!?!!

As for the 5th wheel questions, sorry I have no experience to share/offer on that front. Our truck does have the factory prep for 5th wheel and gooseneck, its a rather awesome setup and I am happy that IF and WHEN we make that leap we will be ready for it!

Fab looking truck, congratulations!

We have the same engine in our '13 F150, it's a brute, yours being light-years newer should be fantastic!

Cheers

Congrats you will love everything about the truck except the fuel milage i have a 2019 crew cab with the 6.2 and love everything about the truck except the fuel milage it does a great job of pull ing the travel trailer we have a 2018 fr wildwood 36 footer with 3 slide about 8700 lbs and it pulls it very well but as a daily driver to work and back i average 14 .5 mpg which kinda sux since my work commute is about 22 miles

Awesome looking truck! We just recently purchased a new 2019 F250 XLT, 6.2L gasser, crew cab with the 6.8' bed, 4.3 gearing. I bet you are going to enjoy all the upgraded Lariat stuff! We were able to find an XLT with the bucket type seats, center console, moon roof, NAV system, so we have some upgrades. I have only about 2750 miles and now getting about 13.8 mpg on my 60 mph commute. Hope it keeps improving. Word to the wise...don't touch the MYKEY BS. It will cripple some features and performance and is difficult to undo.

One month in with the new truck, so far so good!
Don’t quite have 800 miles on it yet and still waiting for the A.R.E. Truck cap to come in for it.
Still getting used to all the gadgets and remembering what every button does but I am really liking the heated seats, my wife especially!
Fuel mileage is poor as expected, hopefully once we get some miles on it and get it broken in it will improve a little.
The lie o meter on the dash is telling me 12.7, but hand calculated at last fill up was 11.1

At least you know you'll never have to worry about the weight police!
Now that you have all that pulling power, have you felt the itch to spring on a nice, new big fiver? I know I would be, but the DW would wisely draw the line on one payment at a time.

Our plan is to upgrade the trailer once the truck is paid off (hoping on 2-years).
While we love looking at 5th wheels whenever we get the chance to, our next trailer will most likely be another travel trailer just slightly larger than we have now.
If we were ready to retire and really head out on long journeys it may be a different story! For now being weekend warriors the small trailer makes getting up and going every weekend during the season nice and easy.
Plus we can fit just about anywhere, we scored some nice waterfront sites this past season because we could fit!

Mileage will get better!

Hey MT Biker,
I am happy to report that at least I think (and believe) that your mileage will improve as you continue your break in. I have seen a few tanks in your range as well and I was more or less 14 +/- on average (by hand calc) until I tried the advice of a neighbor friend/long time diesel dude.....

Look for the Cetain Booster (I am using Ford for now to make sure I don't jeopardize my warranty) and maybe i'm crazy, but I DID see almost 2 mpg stronger result with it. My friend recommend to use it every fifth tank or so and that is what I am trying to do. One bottle states it treats 100 gallons (it calls for 4 ounces to treat 24 gallons if I recall) and if your truck is like mine with a 34 gallon tank you should be able to treat 3 times. So when I think its time, I basically use ~1/3 of a bottle before I fill the tank up and then I put it away until another few tank fills pass. I made a long trip (over to the Tampa RV show) this past weekend over highway to get there and then on back roads to return and came up at almost 16 mpg! (I have the 3.55 rear end)

I have read folks talking about significantly higher mpg results, but the way I look at it, we ALL drive differently AND in different conditions. ... was it really windy?... was it raining?... did I sit at a lot of stop lights/idle time?.... was I doin' 65mph or running along at 75-80 ranges?.... all of it does matter.

After all I have read i decided to take a "I am not worrying about" my city mpg...I AM after all driving a >7,000 mass around town...but instead I am looking forward to see my first extended tow mpg results!! It will be so nice not to see the 6-8 mpg gas result I was so used to.
