New Truck Day!

After a year or so of searching each of the big three I finally pulled the trigger on a new truck!
The Ford Super Duty hit all of my must haves in my search for my next truck.
I have wanted an extended cab truck for a while and I like that Ford still uses the suicide door. I like the hidden look as compared to the tiny door GM offeres... And RAM has abandoned it all together on the HD series.
I would not settle for anything less than having an 8’ bed, especially on a super cab. This criteria however currently makes it almost impossible to find!

After searching for months on Ford’s website I finally found what I wanted at a dealership about 90-minutes from our house.
Did most of the negotiating by email for the price of the truck and my trade (2011 Ram 1500).
Went out to see it today and made the deal!
Was only looking for a XLT version but very happy we ended up with a Lariet package F-250.
Won’t be towing with it until the spring, hopefully by then I will have figured out all the fancy bells & whistles this thing has!

F-250 Lariet Super Cab 6.2L 8’ bed.

Very nice. What's your initial impression of the 6.2?

So far very impressed, we only have put about 200 miles on it from the ride home from the dealership and driving around by our home playing with all the features.
I have only owned 1/2 ton trucks and the largest motor in any of them has been the 4.7L in the RAM 1500 that we traded in on this truck.
You can certainly tell that this is a TRUCK.. it has a heavy feel to it and although the ride is a bit bumpier compared to the soft coil springs in the Ram it is not that bad... and the nice leather seats are very comfortable.
The motor has way more power than I thought it would have, and it really gets up and goes for a big truck.
Managed to squeak out 12.3 MPG on the lie o meter on the dash during the ride home, really not much worse than the 1/2 ton RAM as that was only reading 13.4 on the way to trade it in!

Congratulations on your new truck! You have a perfect truck and trailer combination to take you anywhere you want to go. Does yours have 3.73's or 4.30 gears?

We towed our Micro Lite very successfully with our 2015 F250 6.2l. We owned it 3.5 years and loved it. Only reason we traded our truck was because we struggled a bit towing our 9500# loaded 5th wheel.

Please share how you like towing with it. Good luck - Rick

Lets see if I can post this in the proper thread this time!

Hey thats a Sharp truck! If for any reason I ever decide to go back to a gasser again, it will be the Ford. I did not enjoy my 6.4 Hemi in my 2016 ram 2500 and looked hard for a replacement Ford 6.2 super duty 2017 or newer and just couldnt find the configuration I wanted. Hope it gives you many years of Great service!

Just curious, what did you not like about the Hemi? I'm not a Dodge guy when it comes to trucks, and my Charger has only the 3.6L V6, but I am curious.

I have a 2019 f250 gasser 3/4 ton king ranch. Have almost 7,000 miles on it now and my average mpg is around 16 now. When I first got it my mpg was 12-14.

Congratulations! We got our truck in Sep and spent the next month having it modified to tow (receiver, mirrors, wide nerf bars, Prodigy). Really wanted a Ford but could not find what we needed and did not want to pay the price for an order. Wound up with a Chevy.

Congrats on the new truck! Looks like you've got 2 beauties in your pic!

I came across this thread on the F150 forum that has instructions on how to reprogram some of the "features". I've disabled the double horn honk if you get out of the truck with the engine running, door ajar chime, and enabled turning on the fog lights with the hi beams on (helps to see Bambi on the side of the road), enable both the engine and trans temps on the display, auto-fold the mirrors. The instructions work on most newer Ford vehicles... There is a very active support community for this. Relatively easy to do, just measure twice, cut once! If you follow the instructions to backup your original settings, backing out of a change is straight forward.

Yes when I traded thats when things started going down hill. A 6K-8K TT felt pretty decent, once I started around the 10K mark I became over sensitized to every little annoyance. I camp in some fairly hilly areas, and the weight coupled with the 3:73 just wasn't working for me, although in full disclosure, i know lots of people who work it wth even more weight than that and are fine with it. The ENGINE by itself is a beast I feel. Even better than the 6.2 Ford. I mean it would hold speed or even accelerate slightly on some fair grades, but it was in second doing it.. It sure sounded good though up there around the 5K rpm mark. The Ford however, has better transmission gearing and thats what allows the newer ford (2017 and up) that was updated recently be a better choice to me, were I too look at a gasser again, Unless Ram were to put that magic 8 speed behind that 6.4 then that would be really interesting!

So far I only have about 200 miles on it and none of it has been on the highway, hopefully will see some highway use tomorrow and see if it reads any better mpg!
