Thanks everyone for your input. Well it's really confusing but I know I need to wait till I can buy a cheap tow vehicle before I get my RV now... I can't afford to wreck my van and I want to buy something at least somewhat comfortable when I finally do it. Either that or I'll have to give up on the Surveyor line and see if I can find the smallest Jayco, which at least lists clear GVW. Thanks again.

Very interesting thread, I am new owning a camper and towing etc...


My question is...when the tow car manufacturer states the maximum towing capacity are they figuring that with the gvw of the vehicle (the number on the door jamb plackard...ie fully loaded) or the vehicle totally empty?

generally, most tow ratings are with only a 150lbs. driver and no cargo/passengers.
