Most new campers really don't require a sliding hitch anymore with their new front cap designs...maybe if you really needed to have the truck and camper at 90 degrees it may be required. I never use the manual slider and our camper doesn't have the rounded, lower corners no the front cap that virtually all 5vr's have now.

Your probably OK with an non-sliding hitch. Did Ram have a factory hitch option like that?

At this point we would settle for any type except gooseneck . We are waiting to see what happens within the next week or two.

Why?

Not a bad hitch, will work with any trailer but a tongue pull.

Remember, just because a dealer doesn't know something, doesn't make it gospel. Both 5th wheel and gooseneck are available for 2014 Ram 2500.

http://media.chrysler.com/newsreleas...d=14490&mid=71

Granted that article says 5th wheel and gooseneck capability. Whatever it is, you can be sure this is special order through an aftermarket dept. I read about 2013 there is a special prep package that needs to be installed for 5th wheels. Mount rails may be under the bed instead of on top of bed.

doesn't say they are available. It's a prep package, just means truck will be ready to accept one when someone makes it. Good articles though

Yes, we did know that Ram had their own OEM but I've been told by every manufacturer of 5th wheels say I would have been worse off if I ordered it because it's not like fords that came out a few years ago. That being said , so many of you suggested B&W hitch and we think they have something called turnaround ball hitch. Then purchase the companion hitch. We are going to a dealer today to get more info.

I'm lost as to what is so different about the 2014 that a universal rail system won't work. Is it, that the frame is such, that it doesn't allow anything to be mounted to it? I've installed both custom and universal rail systems and can't imagine where the problem lies, short of no frame access, either inside or outside.

For the B&W, you're essentially buying a gooseneck hitch called their Turnover Ball. It's a great setup because it leaves you with a perfectly empty bed when you remove it:

Then, like you said, you buy their Companion Fifth Wheel hitch that goes into the gooseneck hole. The new ones are pretty awesome in that they install without needing tools. The old ones were pretty simple- 2 U-Bolts and a drawdown bolt, but I'll admit- the green eyed monster has me wanting for the new one.

The Companion hitch comes apart in 2 pieces making it pretty easy to install/remove by yourself:

YES, I feel like a walking/talking B&W commercial. I like the hitch that much. But no, I don't get any compensation from them!

More info here - Turnover Ball & Companion and here - New Companion Hitch

Good to hear you might of found a solution. Please update if you did.
I have had no issues with this B&W set up. I'm pretty sure if you Google the reviews for it they will be favorable.

Not sure how the B&W is going to be a solution, if you can't get any mounting to the frame. The under bed mounting of a B&W is more intrusive, than a universal rail mount. I'm not knocking the B&W at all, but unless they have something made specifically for this new truck at this time, he's still in the same boat.

Well it looks like B&W solved our issue. Went to a dealer today. Just waiting for a call back for a date to install. He did ask one question that started us us thinking. This truck sits pretty high up and to make sure we had enough clearance on our side rails. Since our RV is all leveled up don't want to move it but measured our body I don't think that's an issue!

See if you can get the *new* companion instead of the old one. The new one is pretty rad.

Congrats!

http://youtu.be/WQ84NdxKEo8 Here is a video on the installation of the B&W Turnoverball for the 2013 Dodge 2500, which was a new one piece design, the 2014 is also a one piece design. The new Turnoverball gooseneck hitch model for all 2014 RAM 2500 trucks with coil springs is GNRK1384. They said that it began shipping Monday, October 7th 2013 so it should be readily available by now. I really like the new and improved Companion 5th wheel hitch too, I was just a few months early....
