No power to brakes
I have a new 2015 2500HD Diesel (New to me anyway) We are getting power to everything on the 7-way plug on the truck except the trailer brakes. We checked the connections, checked the fuses, plugged the factory cable back into the bumper 7 way and still nothing.
Is there a trailer connection relay somewhere in the system? We googled it and all that pops up is 2014 and older for a relay.
Do I have to have my trailer plugged in so I get a load on that circuit?
Any ideas would be appreciated before I bite the bullet and take it somewhere to be checked out.

Do you have a brake controller for the trailer brakes. Some come as a towing option from the manufacturer, other wise you have to install your self.

Yes this truck came equipped with a ITBC (Integrated Trail Brake Control) in the dash.

Depending on the controller you have, you will have to have the trailer plugged into the connector before it will send power to the brakes. Also, it will be sending out power proportional to the amount of stopping it thinks is required, so it won't be full power unless you have the gain cranked all the way up and are using the manual lever to apply the braking.
ETA------------------
With the integrated brake controller you should be getting an error code if doesn't sense the trailer brakes.

Mine shows when I'm connected, I believe you have to be connected. I have two and they both work, but never tried not connected.

Have you manually powered the brakes when doing 25 mph? Did you set the gain on the controller to at least 5? The GM braking is power proportional, meaning the harder you stop , the harder the RV brakes work. When at a slow stop it feels like nothing is happening.

Have not had it hooked up yet, took it to have a hitch put in and they told me I was not getting 12V to the trailer brakes and asked if I wanted them to check it out. I thought they were maybe trying to get some more bucks out of me so I told them I would check it out myself (along with a electrician buddy) But when the time got to 1am this morning and we were both falling asleep we decided to hang it up at that point. I like what you and Bama Rambler are saying so tonite I will go over to storage and hook it up.

Check out the GM video on setting up the brake controller.

ps When I'm driving around slowly I think the brakes aren't working. The other day I proved to myself that they were good when I needed to do a hard stop in rush hour traffic from 60mph to 10mph.

Had similar problem with my Sierra 2500HD The GM dealer told me that GM recommends to put a Pollak connector at the end of your RV cable--they did this and I have ha no more problems--you can also do that yourself easily the dealer charged me $90 can.

I have a 2014 Ram 2500 HD diesel truck and I have had the brake controller checked out at two different Ram dealers in the last 72 hours. Both said there is nothing wrong. Went to a trailer supply store (Croft Trailer) and the guy said "give me 5 minutes". Unplugged the factory unit, but on an adapter wire, an after market brake controller and I now have brakes. Problem solved.

Try connecting the trailer then go through the set up procedure. It is an intelligent controller and needs to know what is connected to set up and work properly.

There's a tsb on the rams that has to do with trailer brakes not being detected if the brakes are hooked up prior to starting the vehicle. Requires a pcm flash.
Another thing with ram brake controllers: if there's a problem with the brakes on the trailer (wiring, bad connector, etc) even if just on one wheel, the controller will not supply voltage to the brakes and will complain about no connection, even though turn signals and all of the other trailer lights work.
Had that happen to me after the brake on one wheel went inop.

Couldn't make it over to storage last night to try out all of your suggestions. I will keep you posted as I learn more.
Thanks to all!
