Question noisy ram

We have a 2011 Ram 2500 with 60,000 miles on it and 5.7 hemi engine. We love the truck and Big Blue does a great job towing our TT. However, we have a back brake that is noisy. People stop and stare at the truck it is so loud! After applying the brake and then letting off the brake peddle, there is a loud rubbing noise. Not a brake squeal, just a metal on metal noise. We have taken the truck to 3 repair specialist and they say there is nothing wrong with the brake or wheel. The last one applied some graphite that lasted about 50 miles and then the noise is back. Anyone have any ideas how to quieg this truck down? Thanks!

I recently had to do brakes all around on my 2011 Cummins Ram. What was happening on 3 of the 4 corners was this: the carriers, where the pads and calipers sit, get rusty, swell up, and the pads can't retract fully when you let off the pedal. So your brakes are dragging slightly, even though you let off the brake. My mechanic removed the pads and calipers, took a file to the carriers where the pads are set, and just gave the pads some room to move and release like they're supposed to. My hubs were actually getting hot before this, and now they're all cool. Plus I gained like 2 MPG because I'm not fighting my brakes anymore. Good luck!

Thanks! Our mechanic can do this for us. He didn't want to start replacing parts that weren't bad. this makes more sense.

No offense meant, but I don't think your"repair specialist"is very special. They should be able to find where the caliper is dragging. On my 2011 3500,It was pretty apparent, even to me,where the clipper adjusting rods were stuck and would allow the caliper to move.I'd rethink and find another mechanic.

I guess you have never had your brakes " serviced" ?

Taken apart, cleaned and lubed.
Maintenance.

My GMC Safari Van had such tight clearances that every spring I had to take them apart and clean the rust and make them move again. Used some high heat grease on them that worked wonders.

This is very similar to one of my huge annoyances with my Ram - when I lightly press on the brakes, they squeal. I have had a dealer and a private repair shop look at it and both simply say the brakes are fine and that the squeal should be expected. I sure hate driving through a campground (especially at night) with the noise.

what type of pads are on the truck? oem?

Chrysler oem squeal alot. I put Bremson brake parts on my truck and couldn't be happier.

as for the OP. plan to have your brakes serviced annually. parts aren't made as good as they use to be. everything seizes up a lot faster now.
I service my brakes twice a year when I change my tires.

Yep, OEM. I'll talk to someone about getting new brakes put on.

Bevel the what, where? If I can find a small shop to do it, this might be an option. But otherwise- I'm pretty stuck.

Brake shop would know......file or grind the edges of pads that are in the rotational direction the rotors spin.....forward I'm backward......pads have 4sides...like 2x4 in size....do the 2's...the ends...not the metal back'n, but the material

Most brake squeals are caused by vibration of the pad on the contacting surface not the friction surface. Using a quality ceramic pad if possible will help with brake noise but also lubricating the contact points in the caliper slides will go far in eliminating squeals. To the OP problem from what you are describing sounds like a backing plate rubbing a rotor or a slide clip is moving with the pad and contacting the rotor.

jg. OEM pads are not made by the OEM Only to their specs.(I believe) Premium pads are quite better Wagner/Bendix Ect. I think you meant Brembo on your vehicle also good choice as long as you go with their best,

Tfort, yes, we have tried adjusting and lubercating the backing plate and having something adjusted there. Sorry, I don't remember that detail. It didn't help. In fact 3 different shops including a Dodge dealership have adjusted and inspected the truck brakes. I do have tires and brakes serviced with every oil change.I am a stickler for preventive maintenance so this brake is driving me nuts! I will ask about replacing pads and then move to the calibers I guess. Thanks did the suggestions, I appreciate it!
