My Dodge 5.9 has only received minor “in my opinion” moods but for MPG’s only. I have chipped it and put a 5” legal exhaust on and Inner cooler moods. You give it air it will increase your HP. If I get on it, it will smoke but not my gig!. From FL to TN and back with this load I got 18.8 GPM. Around town I get no less than 22 per. This is with doing the math and not the meter on the dash. I can live with that!!!

Mine will do the same thing until the turbo catches up, then it clears up nicely

remove all semblance of any kind of muffler.

The new stock diesels have very little odor- also due to low sulfur fuel
mandated now days.

I had a K1500 Blazer Detriot diesel way back in the late 80s. That puppy
would pull but it also smelled bad and smoked when I had my foot in it.

Nice truck.
When we switched from a gas 1500 truck to the Cummins diesel Dodge 2500, our first tow DW said "we are never getting rid of this truck! It is worth every penny we payed for it. We will never tow with gasoline again!!!"

After the great tow today with my 2.8, can't wait to try a 3.0 in a Ram 1500.

my ford 6.4 is a smoker but not in a good way. She likes to throw tons of white smoke when in regen in cold damp weather. I can smoke anyone out during that time. hopefully this last trip to the dealership fixed that problem.... won't know until its cold and rainy again.

My 2011 F250 6.7 diesel, 400 HP with 800 lbs-ft. torque is real quiet, sound almost like a gas engine. Does not stink or smoke. Gets 20 MPG, 11.5 MPG towing a 11K lb toy hauler trailer. Gets about one gallon of DEF fluid ever 1000 miles or so, a 2.5 gallon jug of DEF fluid cost about $12 at Walmart.

DEF is expensive when bought in stores. I guess I'm lucky that the local truck stop by me pumped it for about $2.xx gallon. Don't need it anymore since I got rid of my Ford. I have a Cummins now pre-DEF.

I have never nor would I ever build mine for show or racing simply because it was purchased as my tv only. I have mod'd it only for lower egts, better mpg's , a little more efficient tow power but most of all a longer life! mine is a 6 speed man so If I shift to soon and stand on it I can spray for bugs with the rest of them but I pre-fer not to pour fuel out the pipe! lol this is my third diesel ( ford 7.3's) but at one time years ago I did have a gasser but once I towed with a diesel, I wouldn't go back. since I grew up on a ranch with mostly diesel tractors these trucks don't smell at all to me but I could see how some could say that.

I have only towed the condo-on-wheels from the dealer to our seasonal site. The only mods on the truck was the helwig heavy tow sway bar and the Air Lift 5000 air bags and the Super Glide. The 75 mi. tow was easy. Pulled up the hills with no problem. Towed better than the 8,000# TT we had.
