HP is what keeps you accelerating not TQ, I see 550HP @3300 RPM and a gas engine would have to run way more RPM,thats is what makes diesels a better platform , on the flats a 360HP diesel and a 360HP gas is equal, but add throttle to accell, or a hill and the higher HP in lower RPM will out perform. but it sure is nice the have the extra TQ when I need to get rolling

The differance is trans locked in 3rd gear engine screaming at 3 grand and getting 8 miles to gallon VS cruise control on at 65mph trans in OD purring along at 1900RPM and never downshifting or taking out of cruise getting 12mpg. Love the Dmax

I apologize, I was thinking the D-max held more oil than it does. You fuel filter is $10 higher than mine but holds two less quarts of oil. So yes the D-max is as cheap as the Cummins.
I pay:
$9.95 for a fuel filter
$4.63 for an oil filter
$12.97 each for three gallons of oil
I clean my air filter.
That's $53.49 every 10,000 miles.

You have this all wrong. Torque is what keeps you accelerating. It takes torque to over come the force. Horsepower is just a mere number that is used to tell you how much work can be done over a distance in a time frame. You can't have hp without torque and rpm's but you can have torque without hp or rpm. Also, torque can be multiplied by gearing, horsepower can not.

why are all ET calculators in hp. and they have no bearing on TQ. the only required info is weight and HP it could be a 3300lb 200hp car or 400hp 7100lb truck. when I got off the dyno with my #`s and weeks later hit the strip the calculator was almost right on (minus reaction time)

Because that's what hp is. It's a number that you get when figuring work done over an amount of time. The torque is what did the work. A dyno measures how much torque you are applying to the roller at a given RPM. That gives you the hp at that RPM.

torque X RPM / 5252 = hp

The filter may cost more but we don't need to change it every 10, I have 16K on mine and wont need to change it for another 15K or more.

I have a nicktane adapter in place of my factory filter and I run 2 micron CAT filter vs the 10 micron factory. I also have a airdog lift pump with watersep filter and 2 micron fuel filter (cat filter) in it`s place. my total fuel filter cost (3) every 10k miles is around 30 dollars, vs 40 for a single factory. plus the added benefits of cleaner fuel to my CP3 and positive pressure instead of vacume pulling fuel. cant understand why GM did not take the recommendation of BOSCH like dodge did to install a lift pump

To each his own I guess and I could go much longer too but $10 for my filter, I will just change it at every oil change. Cheap insurance and a 30 second job.

Yeah, I could never understand the no lift pump thing either. How much more would it have added to the price of the truck? Couldn't be much. For the most part they hold up though. That is something I need to do to mine , add a fuel pressure gauge. The Cummins is known for the the CP3 pump going because the lift pump quits and causes extra stress on the CP3. I run a pretty hot tune 100% of the time so it worries me sometimes. So far so good but my truck is starting to get some age on it ('05) and it's been running the tune for a few years now pulling my train.

Talking

when I run my maxeffort tune (around 250HP) I can drain the rails pretty quick and pop a code, with the lift pump set at 12psi it never happens, the 40over injectors really like to pass fuel but it is starving for air, but not for ever the twins are on the way s475 over factory

I spent a 5 1/2 yrs towing with a gm 6.0 gasser it did the job but left something to be desired. 3 weeks ago I found a 01 f250 with the 7.3 power stroke with only 26xxx. the first time towing with it sold me on diesel.

Not putting your truck down because you have a great truck and motor but you should go test drive a new(er) one. You think power......This is what you would look like.

a friend of mine put over 500k and never did anything to it towing all the time. my father in law is retired GM and bought a 2000 7.3 he has 240k and tows 18k 3 times a week and it is going strong. You got a great motor that will last forever. just keep cam position sensors in the glove box because they go out all the time, or every 10-20k, at least the inlaws and 2 friends motors do

On mine I only changed it when they had a recall for it and so far it has gone over 85000 miles with no problem with the cps only major problem I had was when I bought bad deisel and it plugged the fuel filter. I now only buy diesel from a station that has high volume sales such as a truck stop.
