OK, I weighed the truck

I had previously weighed both truck and trailer together, on a trip where truck was probably 90% of what I normally carry but trailer was probably over (a return trip from kids' house, using trailer to haul some stuff home). Not a LOT over, but probably a bit more than normal.

Total on CAT scale was 25,001.

Weighed truck yesterday on grain elevator scale. Adding weight for DW, and normal carry stuff that wasn't in there, truck will hit around 9,500.

So how do I calculate pin weight? And what do I 'know' from these two numbers?

BandJCarm, what weights did you get?

You need a weight of the combo. And a weight of the truck alone.

Otherwise, you can't tell the pin weight.

I was told by Cedar Creek that their pin weights are around 20%. Since your camper weights in at 16,500 lbs., that would put your pin weight at 3,300.

Combo 25,001.
Truck alone 9,500.

So, heh- I lied. On a single scale - you also need the camper by itself.

Lemme stop relying on a faulty memory. Here's a post about how to do it:

Really simple at a CAT scale. Get the weight of the truck with the fiver hooked up. Unhook it and get the weight of the truck. #1-#2 equals pin weight. Or, drop by my place and use my Sherline scale.

Seems harder than Chinese Arithmetic.

Never mind. I thought these two numbers would get me there.

I have some pin weight. I'll just live with knowing that. Weighing it five times and hooking and unhooking and moving and all that is more than I am going to probably do.........just to know a number that I can't do anything about anyway.

Thanks though!!!

I just weighted my truck, and then my truck and Cedar Creek 36CKTS. The CAT scale gave me a front axle truck weight and rear. Subtracting the unhitched rear weight from the hitched rear weight of my truck told me the pin weight of my 36CKTS is 3,760 pounds. My RV on the third axle scale weighted 12,120 lbs.

Probably close, but some of the pin weight is distributed to other places on the truck. Take the total weight (front + rear axle) and subtract it from the total weight of the two axles as shown on the CAT ticket with the trailer connected.

As mentioned, a CAT scale at a truck stop is super easy.
