But will know more this weekend after pulling. Lake time and lots of .

Thanks for the idea though.
I think you will be fine. My Supercrew (like yours) pulls my 33' Flagstaff 830FLSS just fine (with my equalizer.) It was 7,000+ dry and the Ecoboost takes it down the road just fine. I know many people like to keep upsizing the RV and I've been there and done that. I finally realized I much preferred camping at more rustic sites so I've gone up and back settling on a 29' camper, whcih is on order. Out of all my RVs over the years my favorite was a 24' Arctic Fox. Went from it to a big Everest 5'er and then a big TT and regretted it over and over. If you like RV'ing at big plush commercial RV parks (I don't) it's hard to beat one of the big rigs and a diesel to haul it. My D/A was a great tow vehicle but I sure enjoy my F150 more (especially when I fill it up.)

Merlin...that Platinum will be great! Awesome choice! Now you'll have to get over to the F150forum.com.. It's a great place too, with tons of great advice.

What is the hitch weight limit on a non-max tow package?

This is for the 2012 Platinum SCREW V6 w/3.55gears. Not sure if his is a SCAB or SCREW.

Trailering
  • Dead Weight Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 5000
  • Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 500
  • Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 7700
  • Wt Distributing Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 1155
  • Fifth Wheel Hitch - Max Trailer Wt. (lbs) 7700
  • Fifth Wheel Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 1925
It's kind of low numbers because the truck is so heavy, the 20" wheels, and no LT tires. I looked at a used one and opted for my XLT SCAB because of the 9800lb max trailer weight. Gave up 20" wheels for chrome 18". Oh well.

Thanks Blake. Kinda weird that the max tongue weight with WD is 1155 lbs, but the max trailer weight with WD is 7700 lbs. Surely the hitch can handle more then 7700 lbs? Or is limited by the 3.55 gears?

3.5L V6 EcoBoost with 6-Speed 3.55 15300 - - - - - 9800 9700

This is from the F150 towing spec sheet. Doesn't differentiate between style levels. 9800 is for 2WD and 9700 for 4WD. With tow pkg but not max tow pkg. Platinum pkg really seems to change things.

Well I did it too and purchased a F250 V10, I don't mind the diesels but my wife just hate the smell of diesel and the loud exhaust notes. Sense we are not full timers and most of our trips are less than 100 miles round trip it should be more than enough truck to pull 8 to 10 thousand pound trailer or fifth wheel . We are lucky, we live in a beautiful area with many lakes and campgrounds nearby.

Blakeb, curious where you got info. I just look at the manual on ford's website and it didn't have any separate info for platinum edition. Won't be picking up till tomorrow so don't have printed book with me.

Those are beasts for a mid size SUV. Also fast as heck. When I was in my VW owners club in VA, we had a mechanic at the dealer in the group who drove one when they first came out. He said it put a R32 GTI to shame, even in the handling. That was the first fleet of V10 TDI's though, they had to redesign it to meet emissions or something like that. They re-released it a couple years later, but I think it had similar specs. If you can find the older ones, they have like 310 HP and 550 lb/ft torque. Mean little buggers IMO. Plus they have luxury interiors, and air ride suspension that you can adjust up to 5" of ride height.

A side note, it also holds the record for largest load towed by a passenger vehicle, a Boeing 747...

Signed,
VW lover

Guess I'll be the first '12 Lacrosse 318BHS Touring ED. to post and boast about my 2009 F150 S-crew; 157"WB; 5.4L; 3.55LS & 6 speed, and pulling a 31foot TT with a Husky 801/ 4 point 1,000/10,000 WDH with sway.
Just returned from the mountains of West Virginia camping at Harper's Ferry. The 6 speed auto handled them there hills without any major surge in power and the ride was so smooth.
With my grandsons growing I may opt to swap to a 3.73 in the future. Otherwise, I'll stick with my current configuration since the missus likes the ride also. Future plan is to travel from Virginia to Calif. this year. Having served 28 years in the military, thought I'd take advantage of all the military trailer parks enroute.
Note aside, I enjoyed reading the threads.

Ok...my last post was from a window sticker of a SCREW...here is what the Ford site says. And yes it does differentiate between style levels. The length of the wheelbase is the difference with F150's.

If it doesnt have a number specified for a particular gearing a wheelbase then that gearing isnt offered in it.

They vary only by 100lbs or so... nothing major like the older ones.

That chart is so confusing. If you believe that chart, you can get a 145" wheelbase Supercrew with Ecoboost that will tow 11200 with just the Max. Trailer Tow Package. I thought you could only get the 11200/11300 capabilty with the 157" wheelbase and it had to have the Heavy Duty Payload Package?

I could be mistaken..but... i am pretty sure you can get a regular cab F150 with a capability of 11,300 lbs towing ..AND.. a payload capacity of over 3,000 lbs.. built with a the right stuff of course ..Max towing pkg...heavy duty payload pkg... 3.73 limited slip... etc..

Correct, only with the 145" wheelbase and it stipulates "Heavy Duty Payload Package Required" to get the 11300lb capacity. I thought on a Supercrew you had to get the "Heavy Duty Payload Package" and 157" wheelbase to get the max towing of 11200lb capacity.

I really want the shortbed Supercrew with max towing capacity. That's why I'm confused about that chart. I guess I'll figure that out with the dealer when it comes time to buy.

I believe the Max Tow Package includes the Heavy Duty Payload package.

I have a 2012 SuperCrew Ecoboost 3.73 5.5' bed(145" wheelbase) 4x4 with max tow package. According to the chart I can tow 11,200 lbs.

The charts are kind of confusing for sure.

I think you made a very good choice. I've owned many trucks over the years (gassers and diesels.... chevs and fords) and my 3V 6.8 V10 is my favorite truck to date. Maintenance is much, much lower than diesels and the thing pulls like a beast (it seems to be happier at 3-4000rpm than at 2000). Mileage is very close to the 5.4 Expedition we used to own. I get 15-16mpg empty and 10mpg towing my 5000lb 26ft trailer with another 1000lbs in the box.

I would find it hard to go back to a half ton now because you've got the power and suspension when you need it. The cons to an f250 are: can't park in a standard garage/parkade, ride is a little "stiffer", and mileage is a little less. I only put about 8000 miles a year on my truck so fuel cost is not as important to me. If I were to go back to a half ton, I'd have to say the f-150 Ecoboost with max tow package looks quite attractive.

Used new truck this weekend and I must say very happy with it so far. Towed about 150 miles and was much nicer than old truck. Here are a couple pictures I took with phone. One is of setup at our lake lot and one that shows truck. We have a lot at tanglewood lakes in la cygne, ks.
