Over inflate tires for increasing speed limit?

I have search to no avail but I swear I read somewhere on here that if you increase the psi in the tires from 80 to 90 psi, you can in theory drive at speeds higher than 65 mph. Am I losing my mind, or what?

I've read a lot of posts stating to inflate the tires to the max pressure indicated on the side of the tire but not to overinflate them. Why do you need to go more than 65 mph? I rather get there safe rather than overinflate the tire and cause a blowout!

Actually the Perrellis that were stock on my F150 if pressure was increased 10 psi above rated sidewall the weight capacity increased. I opted for LT Tires instead. I believe as far as increasing pressure to increase speed rating is not possible.

My truck drives best at 68-70 mph when I'm towing. Plus, driving around Houston is tough to do when everyone is going 75-80

Most trailer tires have a maximum speed of 65 mph. However, if speeds from 66 to 75 mph are used, the tire inflation pressure can be increased by 10 psi without any increase in load. However, the Tire and Rim Association, which sets standards for tires, suggests decreasing the load capacity of the trailer by 10 percent if you are running at these higher speeds.End of story marker

When your tire(s) explode, you will lose more than just the tire. Have TPMS if going those speeds (might give you a second of warning before things go south)...... Lady Luck and Misses Fate will catch up to you one day.... (been there and done that, and it was not pretty...)

IMEO, pushing an ST tire to those extremes is a fool's errand. Adding the heat of the south stirs the recipe for high-speed blowout.

Evidently, the folks driving around Houston can't see an rv in front of them or the steering wheel doesn't turn enough to go around them.

Let's be clear...I'm driving 3-4 mph more than the tires speed rating, not 10-15 over. When I have I blow out, you can all say I told you so.

I will say "I told you so"... right now (forgive me)... That Texas sun heats those highways up so much that your tires will melt on the beads... I have lost 4 tires in south Texas due to the heat.

It's hot regardless of my speed. Whether I drive 65 or 68, the temp will still be up there. I just keep an eye on the tpms

After my first blow out on my old TH (less then 1000 miles on it) and doing $3k in damages to the trailer. I ordered 17.5's Load range H with a 75mph speed rating. That was the best $2k I have ever spent on a RV. When we bought the new Cedar Creek, the Goodyear G614 came off of that trailer and my 17.5's went straight on to it. I know the G614's are great tires but 17.5's are better.

We set the cruise at 70 - 75 and roll on. As most highways are 75 around us.

That is a big topic on the Heartland forums and it seems alot of people do it but not for the increased speed but to help the tires stand up to the weight of the trailers. Dont know if there is any fact to it but have read numerous people that do it.
