P3 overload no brakes

I have a 2013 Toyota tundra that I put a P3 in and I also had got the pig tail already made up to make it easier. Ok I fully understand how the controller works and the boost functions. So I had it set with boost 1 on and controller at 5.0 I hit the brakes and work at first then I would get the message overload no brakes. So I turn it down to and it would stop and only do it every once in a while. I read in the owners manual that to much currant is being sent to the brakes so I took the boost off had it set at 5.5 and it would give me the message again so I now have it turned down to 4.5 and it seems to be working better. I tried hitting the brakes hard once and it came in once and didn't do it again. My truck weight is 6800 pounds and camper weight at the time was 5000 pounds but will be around 6500 when loaded. So it would make sense to have boost off. I emailed tekonsha and they said I have a short on the blue out put wire some where. I am not so sure if I believe this it works fine during normal braking but happens when I hit them hard. I haven't had a chance to take a look at the harness but I know when I did the install everything was good and all wires looked fine. Has anyone had this issue before? Thanks for any help.

never had that issue ... towed a 7000 lbs cargo trailer for over 45,000 miles.

I didn't have a "No Brakes" light up on my old motorhome when towing, turned out to be a bad ground on the 7 way socket motorhome side.

I went and checked and nothing wrong with the blue wire at all. I unplugged checked and made sure that it was secure on both side of the pig tail. Nothing. Anyone else have any suggestions. I still think its applying to much I just need to find the sweet spot. Just because it works fine during normal slow stops makes me think how could there be a short.

This could be a bad brake coil, (works when normal but does not like max volt/amps) if that is what it is it will eventually short out on normal braking too.

So I guess the place to begin is to take off all brake drums and check for bad wires.

I would disconnect all my magnets and check each ones resistance. While all disconnected, I would also check for shorts on your trailer wire. It should be open. Then, if no exceptions, I would hook them up one at a time until I get that message. Its just timely troubleshooting.

Ok so here is my next question. The P3 has a alarm that says open circuit. Would that be the warning I would be getting rather than overload?

It does sound like a bad connection.

If you have a short to ground in the wiring or the brake coil it be overload. if you had a simple broken wire not touching grount or an open coil it would be open circuit.

I am an ex mechanic but I am not really familiar with trailer brakes I did not have to work on many. I am sure they are not to complicated. I feel like I should know this but when you refer to coils is this the same as magnet. Thanks
