Parking TT with a winch?
Bay Area newbie here. I'm having some difficulty parking my TT at home with the towing vehicle, the extension to my driveway is a bit too narrow to do this comfortably. I'm considering uncoupling the trailer near its final parking spot and then pulling it the rest of the way (backwards 30 ft.) with an electric winch while maneuvering it into place by guiding the tongue caster wheel with a towbar. Good, Bad, or Ugly idea?
Would appreciate comments/tips from others that have experience doing this. The trailer is small, 14', weighs 2600 lb. dry, 260 lb. tongue weight. The winch would be rated at 2000 lb. Tongue lift and caster wheel rated at 2000 lb.

Don't see a problem as long as you pull from the center of the trailer and have a remote control on the winch.

Not an inexpensive solution, but I park my TT next to my garage ( within 4" with ease. They also have a connector to the trailer brake just in case.
Can move my trailer with one hand.

At first I though you were referring to a (Woman)! It sounds like a BAD idea to me,if (Something goes wrong) all hell could happen and NO WAY to STOP it! This is why they have (Safety chains and Brakes) PLUS they are Hooked up to a TV!  Youroo!!

Don't pull from bumper. Tie off to center of axle or use a "Y" configuration and attach at two points. Just not the bumper.

I use a Horror Freight 1100 LB 120 volt winch (about $120 with a coupon discount) to pull my hardside popup up a grade and into my garage. Works well. The first time I tried using a manual winch - Uggh!
I pull it about 18 inches at a time, then reset the wheel chocks. I tie a small rope to the break away line and keep minimum slack as a back up.

Do remember the pull rating of a winch can be substantially different at 30' vs. what its advertised rating is which is generally set with a fairly short pull.

The Drum diameter with cable( wound/spooled) is Lower Torque than when you start with a Empty Spool! Thus the More Cable on the Spool the (Less Power)! Youroo!!

Googling "trailer tugs" brings up any number of commercial solutions, both battery and 120v, to moving a trailer.
Creating a personal solution is more fun. Keep safety in mind however.

That's exactly the technique I use as well. Short string to the breakaway cable in one hand, winch controller in the other. I also verify the battery charge just in case I have to pull the panic chord! It works better than I had expected.

In general, not a good idea. But looking at this plan, it doesn't seem so bad. Taking baby steps with the chocks limits the amount of speed the unit could build if the cable breaks. And with a longer cord attached the breakaway, if the chocks didn't stop it, it would slow it down enough for you to get clear, and still yank the breakaway.
Still not a great idea.

My neighbor uses a front mounted receiver hitch to put his boat in the back yard. I don't know if this would work for you. Still won't see very well but easier to turn or back TT straight in tight places.

At first I had been pulling from the bumper but after I read this I realized this was not a good idea. Now I'm doing it by tying off the axle using a "Y" configuration as suggested. This provides some redundancy in case one side of the chains breaks. Also, it allows me to balance the load on the chains as the winch is not along the center line of the trailer but off to one side. The chains are wrapped around the axle and the spring so it doesn't slide off position.
